-Who's using an 85mm/f2 Jupiter-9...

I've only just started using my new Bessa-R, and one of the lenses I'm using it with is a J-9 (in addition to a J-8 and CV lenses). So far I've only done a few shots with the J-9 on it (using the 90mm frame) and it feels fine on the camera - the only strangeness is having to turn the aperture dial the opposite way to the meter's LED arrows.

As for image quality, I don't have any results with the Bessa yet but I've used the J-9 on FSU cameras and I really like it - I'm lucky to have a good one (though there are some poor ones out there - I have one of those too 🙄 ).

I'll be posting some results from the Bessa-R here when I have some (including with the J-9), but it might be a little while as I'm not able to develop and scan right now.

Not as sharp as my 75mm Heliar but very nice in the right circumstances. Prefer its bokeh wide open for example in high contrast scenes. Softness may help with portraits as well. When I say soft of course that's in relation to the Heliar which is almost too sharp for me...

I use my J-9 with my R2a and iiia (I've finally won a bid on a 85mm viewer for the iiia).

As everyone has said, the bokeh is lovely and it's nicely soft - I too use it for portraits. I initially bought it as a telephoto for a wedding, but I find the R2a / me cannot focus it accurately quickly.

I just love my J-9. It's a superb lens. Soft wide open, but acceptably sharp from f/4. The weight is just about right - the body hangs as it should 😉

For some examples - click on the lens name in my signature, or visit the Jupiters rule! group on Flickr.

I use one with Kievs and another on the bessa R, and have always been pleased, but mine is a very good example. See the bridge pictures in my gallery for a few examples.

I have one for my Kiev & one m42 mount left (the other went to Gene).

I use both of them, but never did a comparison.

I use a metal tele hood from Heavystar.

Bill, those bridges are shot with J8 lens (not J9) or did I mess things up and looked at different bridges?

Looks very good from these.
Thank you.

Edit: typos 🙂

Ive got one for Kiev/Contax it is sloppy mechanically, beauiful optically and produces sharp pictures if you hold it steady. I use a Oly OM-x 85mm rubber hood.

Oops. I wasn't specific enough. The Prague Charles Bridge at sunset photos are J8. The photos of the ruined highway bridge (listed as Biloxi-Katrina) were shot with a J9. Also the two Vicksburg photos.
