The title of the Canon RF forum says specifically:

Canon RF For all Canon Rangefinders, fixed lens or classic Leica Screw mount

So why is there all these Canonet threads going to the fixed lens forum??😕

Because the description of this forum was written before the fixed lens RF forum was created.

this forum is actually for the interchangeable lens Leica mount Canon RF.

and the forum description will be updated accordingly.

Why not keep the staus quo here Stephen? Most regular Canon RF posters have a Canonet or too (at least !) and are a seam of knowledge for all Canon models. After all, most beginners graduate onto the improved models from the Canonets .....

Are all previous Canonet threads going to move? If so, it's going to be confusing trying to find any earlier specific and valuable threads/references/posts again. I must admit I'll be disappointed if they move, and get lumped in with all mariad of other models of fixed lens compacts. How do owners of the Olympus, Minolta's, etc 'compacts' feel?

I think the problem is more new members not doing their homework on regular appearing topics - ie the 625 mercury cells issue, etc etc and adding too much 'padding'. Still I'd imagine that's going to happen anywhere though :-(

So maybe more stickys are required and/or a FAQ - with all the common queries - on signing up?

I second 'airds'. The Canon RF forum doesn't get much "action" as it is. Take out the Canonets, and it will become a ghost town. A few stickies or Canonet FAQ sticky might help with all the duplicates as mentioned. The reason people go with Canonets is the price. A lot of beginners will come and go, but there are a few experts in the Canon RF forum that can help out a lot of newcomers like me.

I agree. I went to the fixed lens forum and found talk of Yashica's - of which I have many - and then I wondered why we have a Yashica Rangefinder forum? This get too confusing. I suggest the fixed lens forum be used for those brands not cover elsewhere.

Hmm.. to further complicate this new layout schema, we now have the FSU forum now called "Russian" in the index (the column to the left), but called "FSU" within the forum itself.

I've said it elsewhere, and I may be in a minority on this.
But I think we are just getting crazy with the number of sub-forums. It takes so much work to keep track of all the places you need to go to find interesting conversations.

I have an M8 camera and Canon P.
I use lenses made by Leica, Konica/hexanon, Canon and Consina Voigtlander. Some are M-Mount. Some are Leica LTM. Some are non-leica LTM. I'm looking at possibly adding a Nikkor to my kit.

This means my kit is covered in at least eight diffferent sub-forums here - most of which, I just end up ignoring.

I don't get the logic behind it. I understand the idea of separating out sub-forums based on interest. But is there really that much difference between, say, a Leica-M Leica CL and a Leica-M Minolta CLE?
There are so many sub-forums here that could be combined to create larger communities of photographers, all chatting with and learning from each other. Which, I thought, was the whole point.

I'm torn. Subforums do help newcomers who aren't sure where to start, and for regulars they cut down the time spent thumbing through equipment-specific messages (sometimes with vague titles) that are not immediately relevant. OTOH, I think some of the names are confusing and the topics too specific. As a web designer I sympathize; these sort of taxonomy issues are tough. and there are no perfect answers.

Another good thing about the subforums is that they help narrow down the pool when you're trying to search for something. Provided, of course, that what you're looking for is posted in the proper forum. 🙂 Of course, the best fix for that would be a better search engine, but real search appliances are expensive, and most forums have fairly weak search capabilities, so that's not really RFF's fault. At least the Search function here is usually working, and not disabled half the time like some other sites I could name...

There is a search function for the entire RFF forum, if you select the advanced search function you can search all the various forums one at a time.

This might be one tool that is not adequately used here at RFF. It turns up some interesting information from parallel forums that I had not read previously.
