You are going to rise the price of the 7
I have read that some Selenium Cells are revived with a cleaning of alchohol or other compound, but have not tried it. The Contax IIIa meter was unresponsive until I rubbed the meter a bit, probably cleaning the contacts. It works fine now. Often dead meters are due to dirty contacts, stuck meter needles, etc. Cells do die, but I find more active ones than not.
On the subject of replacing the Selenium Cell: Selenium Cells are no longer made. You can get them from parts cameras, which I have done with the Retina IIIS.
Another solution which would be worth trying is to use a Silicon Cell with a Hot Mirror filter over it. That would eliminate the excess IR response.
