I'm looking for an M2 or 4 in very bad cnditions, but with sound mechanics. Should I stop my quest? Is it impossible to find a camera like this?

No, it's not impossible.
I have a very beat up but very well functioning M2.
Keep on searching.

Cheers,

maybe the problem is this: people who own this kind of camera don't sell them easily. where did you find your?

I don't have a real budget: I'd like to find the less expensive camera, and see if I can afford it. Something lower than 300€ would be good (Is it enough?)

I think EUR 320-350 or so should be possible. But it will be an M2.

Let's post here if we see one, guys ....

Cheers,

Roland.

An M2 would be perfect! And for the price... As we say in Italy, I'll eat bread and onions for a while! :)

Just keep checking eBay. That's the best place to find a beater for a fair price, although look out for condition creep with attendant price creep. Most beaters are described as being better than they are so the seller can extract extra cash from you.

I have been looking for a bargain on a beaten up M2 for a little while. I am pretty cheap so I keep getting out bid, but keep looking, they do pop up, selling anywhere from $500 to $650ish if they are ugly. Well functioning cameras do sell for a respectable price (in my eye) regardless of looks though.

thanks for the encouragement, guys!
I'm looking on ebay, now. Do you think that bidding on a camera with lens included would be wise? Maybe the price would be lower?

Yes, but know the price of the items you are looking at if sold separately and look for good descriptions of both body and lens, not one or the other.

Hi,

I bought an "ugly" (dealers description) M3 very well functioning from Ken Hansen for a good price.
Call him and see what he has........

Yes, and as Ralph said. And the Elmar is worth about US 250 in good condition :)

Was just going to add: also add M4-2 and M4P to your list, sometimes you can be lucky.

Cheers,

Roland.

Good job you're not in Japan

Battered M2. The price is listed at ¥840,000. That's the princely sum of approximately $7000 !!!!!
Of course! It says it's in the mystical Black Paint, not Gold like i thought it would be.

My recently bought was so beat up I decided to paint it black and get grey leather on her. Now she looks nice with the chrome controls. The viewfinder was hazy and the selftimer is still iffy, but all is relatively well now. For 130 euros and some DIY not bad I guess.

Happy hunting

Happy hunting

www.keh.com has several M2-M3-M4-2 bodies in the 400-450 Euro range. They can be trusted AND you may return the camera if you don't like it within (I think) 15 days. The M5 will cost a bit more. But oh so worth it! :D

Good luck!

I should keep my eye on this. I'm also in the market for a beat, battered, and bruised M2 or M4 with the intent of refinishing it (a la zen-shooter). Since I'm not a collector, original condition means very little to me as long as it's operational.

laptoprob, got any pics of your M?

I got my M3 (with M2 viewfinder) for ~ 470 USD. Doesn't really look like a collectors item (several small dings and scratches) but works perfekt and the viewfinder is clean and bright.
