Why closed threads are outrageous IMO

"Maybe this is all a bit too difficult for you"

I see, you wish this to be a forum where you can insult people? Sadly for you, it is not. It is a photographic forum.

I don't like censorship and in an ideal world we wouldn't need it. If everyone treated everyone else with respect, there would be no need - nor would there be a need for laws, prisons for those that break those laws or wars. Unfortunately, the world is not a perfect place and often it is the choice of choosing the lesser of two evils.

chairman Mao used to love that thought. as a matter of act, Stalin said that as well. It is not them who need to crash people down with an iron fist but it is people who asked for it...

um....

oh yeah, they also deleted the link you provided as well. is that another moderator who decided to do so because people started to question the his very own behavior?

I will retire from this forum NOW, and I will think about the question if it makes sense for me to spent time and brain on posts and threads in this forum and if I shall leave my gallery up. Or if I would not better blow myself out of the collective memory of this forum.

Bertram:

You and I frequently disagree on subjects, sometimes quite strongly :p But I value your opinion, as it is always expressed thoughtfully. And that's the point ... forums are about hearing other people's views, sometimes contrarian. It is not about having our own views parroted back to us and falling in love with our own positions. We have mirrors for that ;)

We've already lost Brian Sweeney due to some rather silly arbitrary thread deletion incident, let's not lose any more valuable members. His loss is felt and yours would be too. As Daniel said, stay and think about it. Your departure will certainly not enhance your vision of the forum.

And frankly, who else would I have left to disagree with? :D

cheers

Your answer is here if you care to look.

so far sounds to me you are the only one in this thread who had insulted another member. of course now you can say mine too.

and what is that big word "photographic" mean?

But to see how selectively a basic right is given and suddenly taken back then, that is ennervating. It gives me the feeling that no sort of criticism is really welcome here, no matter if is silly or constructive. It is seen as negative per se and as de-structive.Praise this forum or shut up ?

Posting whatever we want on RFF is not our inalienable right. It's a privilege. I understand that sometimes one doesn't agree with the moderator, but it's thier website, they don't owe us an explanation.

Folks, don't waste your time trying to analyze the problem or offering any suggestions. I'll bet that this thread will also be deleted.

Correct. Jorge will run this site the way he wants, it's simply not up to us to decide. I've learned that. RFF may not be perfect, but it's still the best (by far) forum that I can find. Relax, enjoy the aspects of RFF that interest you, and simply ignore what doesn't. Be nice to each other..

Maybe this is all a bit too difficult for you, or maybe you are anyway used too much to disrespectful treatment, whatever , you did not get at all what it is about here.
.And what the "real political repression around the world" shall contribute to this discussion here, no clue. Your contribution is a kinda mental fastfood, but at least we know now where your outrage bar is set. Thanks for telling.

... however, this does not sound very friendly:

They have a list of people who need to be banned. I will communicate with them and finalize the dropping of the trouble makers.

I saw that too. Thats the first time I've ever seen a site owner make such a declaration. I must have missed all the really bad stuff thats been happening.

Frank,
I agree with you completely, it truly is that simple.

What was so 'offensive' about the imbalance thread that got it deleted? It made a fair point without being rude to anyone. There were no insults at all, no profanity, just people discussing the forum.

Deleting that thread seems to have caused much more bad feeling than if it had been left alone.

Maybe these sensational threads are stealing attention away from the (in admin's view) more favorable threads. Of course they'll have none of that.

Just an observation, has anyone else noticed that all of the contraversial threads are inhabited by the same players, time after time after time? The topic always comes down to themselves, their rights as a member and their opinions on how things should run?

discuss amongst yourselves, I'm alittle vaclempt right now :)

say it as a matter of fact, no matter what the fact is. you got tony blair on your side...

btw, you don't have to shout at me by capitalizing my user name, i prefer the lower ones.

typically, things that don't change are dead. even then, they are a changin'

bye everyone. have fun.

Dawgone it... I just spent 25 minutes trying to figure out what "WTL" stood for in Jenni's post. I understood "BTW", but got stumped on that abbreviation. Now I get it... talk about dim-wits and lower forms of intellectual life (speaking of myself in a self-depricating manner)! I guess I didn't get enough quality sleep last night :bang:

Thanks Todd, I was going to make a similar observation in the now ex thread that the participants also were of the higher post count variety. (RFF burnout maybe?).

I don't mean to fan any flames, just an observation.
