Before this thread went on a wrong way, I answered
can't afford an RD1
But it's not exactly the (whole) truth.
I'm sure, if I had an RD1, I'd still shoot sometimes film - for the feeling...
And my old (and not so old) cameras ask for use them...
To me scanning a roll makes a very similar feeling to the darkroom process - if I remember well, as it was more than ten years ago when I did that.
In short - just for fun.

Do I remember well, the question was : why do we still shoot film???

Actually i enjoy reading Bill's well reasoned replies it must take while to compose them - i can't write that well.

I think Toby's put it best so far

Why does obsolescence always come up in digital v. film arguments? A Leica M3 is obsolete in terms of its intended purpose ( a professional workhorse ). You could argue that all RF's became obsolete with the arrival of SLR's. Surely it's the end result that counts whether you use film, digital, SLR or RF no one method is inherently better than another.


This thread is beginning to read like some of the Pnet threads and sort of missing the point of the orignal question of why some of still choose to use film.
Point is we DO choose to and many of us have given very personal reasons why so what's the point is attacking personal viewpoints when the orignator of the thread asked for them? :confused:
 
I think the reason I use film is that I prefer to. I get something real in my hand and can still easily choose whether I should continue working with it in a tradtional darkroom or in a computer. I have not yet decided which output medium I prefer, so it is good to be able to do both.

I also prefer to use RF cameras, and that leaves few digital camera alternatives. Somehow I think the most appealing complement camera is a small pocket digicam, preferably some that works very well in low light, but I have not really found any yet to my liking, but maybe some day.

From a cost perspective, I save money by using film, but it is not a dramatic difference, so that is not a big issue.

Who wouldn't mind seeing a ban on this Andy K character? This dude starts $hit up everytime the discussion invovles digital and film in the same thread. It almost always evolve into person attacks. His character on this forum has been proven to be one of hostility and unacceptance. I truly believe that he is single-handly bringing down the quality of this forum. The admin has given him way too many passes for his shenaniganses, it's finaly time to put this to an end.

I vote yes for a ban. Anyone else?

Gosh, I didn't come back until now and I was quite surprised what aggressive loops this thread has taken.

I have to admit that I do use a digicam sometimes. A Kyocera (which at least feels like the lens has been computed by Carl Zeiss...).

I enclose a couple of photos taken digitally or on film.

Won't tell Andy or Kin what's what ;)

Keep cool and enjoy photography. Preferably on film... :D

Yes, I agree. Ban me. In fact ban everyone who disagrees with ywenz. Ban everyone who has their own opinion. Lets create a forum where everyone thinks the same things and says the same things. Gosh how interesting that will be.
 
I'm with you, Frank.And Andy is not the only one doing personal attacks here. Let's close this thread and move back to RF photograpy.
