I just read up a little bit on Double X, and I see that Casino Royale was shot on Double x. I bet both of these films would sell like hotcakes if they were reintroduced now.
This is the Film Renaissance, let's go Kodak!

Double X 5222 is still available.

Yeah, you can still get Double XX. I buy it in 400 ft rolls and spool it down, then put it in a Lloyds bulk film loader and load 35mm cassettes with it. Lots of fun.
Plus X unfortunately is long gone.

Yup, as Freakscene and Timmyjoe said, you can still get Double-X, direct from Kodak in 400-ft reels (currently out of stock) or 1,000-foot reels. Film Photography Project also spooled down to 100-foot bulk rolls and 24-exposure cassettes.
Apparently, FPP also has a small amount of Plus-X left, in 24-exposure cassettes.

"Why do you suppose Plus X and Double X didn't make the cut?"
Because they didn't Tri!

Bait is a new film shot on a Bolex with 16mm Double X (developed by the director), with the sound & dialogue dubbed on later. I think it looks and sounds amazing.

I've still got two 100 foot rolls of Plus-X in 16mm in the freezer. I keep looking for a good 110 camera to shoot it in, but so far haven't found anything that does it justice.

I started this Eastman 5222 XX thread right here on RFF:

Eastman 5231 is the original Plus-X formulation (not EI 125, it's EI 80). I still have 400' in the freezer.

Would it be worth buying a nice condition Pentax 110 SLR?

Old bulk film in the freezer seems to be our way of "investing". Just waiting for the time when it either peaks or Kodak re-introduces it and kills the investment.

Awesome references; thanks!
I shoot a lot in cameras with max shutter speed of 1/500s. I like Tri-X, but sometimes, it's too fast. I could pull it a stop or two, but I figure why not try something classic that's rated at 125 or 200?

Basically they didn't make the cut because there was not enough demand.
So, in other words, it is because you people didn't bought enough of it. Hope you are happy about it.

I have about 10 rolls in the freezer too
I will shoot one before the dark and cold weather gets here
It is not doing any good just sitting in the freezer
Your pic shows everything I love about Plus-X

...or, they thought if they raised the price to where it DID make sense, it would drive the demand down even further.
It SEEMS like there would still be a market for 1000', 400' and 100' bulk rolls though? I guess not. It's just that we have a few like-minded folks here.
The rational solution is to use FP4 and develop it such that it looks like Plus X.

Indeed! It is for that very reason I resumed doing my own B&W development again after shooting Ilford XP2 for a couple of years. ASA 400 is just too fast for some cameras (and/or for certain lenses where the smaller apertures are much too close together on the aperture ring). I tried using an ND filter for awhile, then eventually bought the tank and reels and chemicals so I could do it myself. Now I'm a happy ASA 100 guy! (Ilford Delta 100)

Yeah, I guess. FP4 looks close enough to Plus X. Still got about 8-9 rolls on the freezer. Panatomic and Plus X where my favorite films. Wasn't that hot for Tri-X. I suppose I thought it was very "common" or plain film at the time, probably since most of my pals then used it.

By the way, any development suggestions to make FP4 looks like Plus-X?
