Personally I think something dodgy went on between Epsom and Leica!

Because it wasn't selling enough copies? It seems to be one of those items that becomes more popular after being discontinued.

I'm not sure that's an actionable libel, but it's certainly a long way from what I know.

A limited edition camera with one production run didn't make enough profit to warrant a second production run?
Nah, too logical. It MUST have been a conspiracy...

I think the poster is saying that Leica forced Epson to stop making the RD1.

Probably a combination of low sales, a general lack of interest by Epson in the dRF market, and an aging camera Epson wasn't interested in updating.

Epsom salts are really bad for film or digital sensors. Great for detox baths, though.
The beginning of the end for mud baths?

They got them in a room, see? And then they introduced him to their friends Hanz and Franz, see? And then they suggested an offer they couldn't refuse, see?

By kidnapping the Epson RD-1 product manager, taking him to the misty woods of black forest and breaking his index finger with a hammer.

And the old, "Me and my friends get nervous, see? And last time we got nervous, well, knowwhatImean?"
I've not done that in 30 years or more, but it's fun at the time. A friend and her husband were splitting up. She (and some of her friends) turned up at the (formerly marital) abode to remove the furniture that she had paid for -- including the matrimonial bed.
Her husband had his heavy chums there too -- but we were heavier...
Quite fun to imagine it with the people I know at Leica. Some for the silent menace, some as muscle... Probably best not to say who I have in mind.

They got a raft of sh*t for QC problems. After that and the low sales (even I wouldn't have bought it at $3K, and I love the camera) they decided it wasn't worth it. Who needs a black eye for that kind of limited market nonsense?

I heard it was a highly-collectible aluminum all-black 35mm f/1.2 (super rare! Only two Illuminati own one!) Nikkor S.C. lens mounted on an ultra-rare Made in Occupied Japan black-paint SP
Just to drive an ironic twist to the libel.

You have poked (yes, "poked") my (our?) interest. Was it Hanz?
