Of course, print/viewing size certainly makes a difference in regards to tonality and resolution, and MF obviously has the advantage there, so much of this depends on the print size and how far you are away from it. That being said, when talking about the look differences between the formats, I'd say it comes down to lens design. If you're cropping 35mm into square ratio, you'd need a 35mm lens at f1.4 to closely approximate an 80mm f2.8 on 6x6, and an 80mm Planar at 2.8 is going to have less aberrations than a wide open, fast 35mm lens. Of course, a 35mm Summilux asph is probably pretty close.
