Why does the film counter blink?

Hi Guys,

When I turn my G1 on, i.e. take the shutter release off the lock position, the first numeral on the film counter blinks/flashes.

What's that mean?

All my pictures have turned out, except the ones I took with the 90 below hand-holdable speed.

Is this normal?

Ok, nobody answered, so I do my best.

No, I haven't seen it on my G1. I can't check it as it is on its way to be serviced soemwhere in the wide world, sent it to Kyocera in Hamburg last week and don't expect it back this year.

Foto Hupert in Wuppertal offers an new G1 for jezt nur 300,- euro !! And 'generally he is not cheap but very reliable.

And Huppert has the ZI, too :)

Got my G2 from Huppert in 2002 and just bought a G1/2 strap with rings and protectors for the G1 there.

He does service on older Yashica/Contax cameras as well, my RTS is there for a cleaning, it has some crud in the viewfinder and needs new lightseals and a mirror damper.

A couple of times the fresh film I put in my wife's G2 didn't catch and I got blinking.

I'm currently seeking service on my G2, which definitely has some front focus issues. Any hints, Socke? Anyone else?

Edit: Hey! It's my hundredth post! Do I get a prize??? Wha'd I win... wha'd I win?

You're in Okinawa? I think Kyocera in Japan is the right place for service. Here in Germany Contax cameras are still serviced by Kyocera and as far as I know it's only the USA where they got ToCad to do it.

Yeah, I know it sounds funny that I'd ask that being in Japan and all. It seems that some people like to send things to Japan to get them fixed, however, so I thought maybe you'd have some idea. I cannot communicate in writing, and speaking proper Japanese over the telephone can make me seriously stress. My wife could do it for me, but I usually only do so as a last resort. She hates doing business over the phone.

I'm gonne keep checking, and hope I can get an accurate quote for what it might cost to make what's probably just some small adjustment(s). Have you ever had your G go out of focus? I did see one guy mention that his did, and after sending it in to be fixed, all was spot on, even for the 90 at 1 meter, wide open. Mine sure isn't.

To the original question -- I think this means you may have put the camera into "set-up" or diagnostic mode. Is it still doing it? If so, I'll check my service manual (you may have another button stuck "on", which combined with the power on, puts it into this mode).
Let me know.

Does the blinking change from one to the other to both? When you have the auto bracket function on the blinking counter alternates left blinking for overexposure, right for under, both for standard exposure.
