There are adaptors sold on ebay for Nikon F to leica M and also Contax C/y to leica M, but why is there no adaptors for canon EOS to leica M... is there something technical that prevents this..or do they exist.

no aperture control would be a biggie.... having to shoot every lens wide open would really make things more difficult.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought at least some of the canon eos lenses had aperture control on the lens.
I guess the reason I am asking is that with a canon eos to Leica m adapter, I could then use a bunch of other lenses (mainly my Olympus Om lenses) with a second adaptor on the leica M.

If I remember correctly, Cameraquest used to sell Olympus OM - Leica M adapters but have now sold out. Maybe you can find these secondhand somewhere.

Yes I have heard about the Om to M adapters but in two years of looking have never seen one.. it is as elusive as the Ivory billed woodpecker, I think.

Basically, the problem is that everything EOS is fully electronic, there are no mechanical linkages between camera and lens and, except for focus, no manual controls on the lens either. (In fact, on some lenses even the focussing is done electronically.) A purely mechanical adapter is obviously of very limited value.

You will have the same problem with Nikon's "G" lenses, their aperture is controlled electronically from the camera.
