WIde angle point and shoot

Fuji Klasse W

Close. But I was thinking of the Natura. See link above. Wider @ 24mm and WAY faster @ f/1.9.

Best compromise of focal length, maximum aperture and price: the Fujifilm Natura.

The Natura even has it's "own" film. Fujifilm Natura 1600 135... something I've always wanted to try but never could justify importing.

Fuji Zoom Date F2.8 aka Silvi in Japan. One stop slower, still 24mm (at wide end) quality lens.

I have a Nikon Lite Touch/AF600, really compact with a 28/3.5 lens. I've only shot a test roll so far but I am liking it so far. Got it $4 at a thrift store and can be acquired for around $30 on the popular auction site.

There's a few models of Olympus Trip cameras that have 28mm lenses. I have one and it's sharp enough, but you're not going to get around the fact that you will have to spend a decent chunk of money for the sharpness you're hoping to obtain. It's an ironic predicament because if there was a 21mm point and shoot film camera as sharp as the Leica 21mm, market demand would drive the price up. There's no hidden gem out there that's $50 that matches the quality of the best RF wide-angles out there.

My advice would be to get a cheap Bessa-L for under $100 and get a 21mm or 25mm color-skopar with viewfinder for $300-400 and you have a great "get up and go" shooter for under $500. But then since you obviously already have a Leica, you might as well just stick to finding a wider lens for it.

I've put about 30-40 rolls through my Fuji Natura Black. It's sharp, very high contrast and it handles alright. The viewfinder is pretty awful and the bokeh on the lens can be pretty weird sometimes.

Here's a few examples of what the camera can do:

The cable between the battery door and film chamber can be easily damaged, like in the Konica Big Mini F.

Otherwise it's an amazing camera.

samsung ex-1/tl500 is a brilliant digital point and shoot that goes to 24mm.

i believe they have just released the ex-2 as well.

Hi,

I'm told the Ricoh R1 in the 24mm panoramic setting can be fiddled with and the frame made whole again. I guess the top and bottom masks are stopped from moving. They are dirt cheap if you find one in a market or charity shop and dear on ebay.

Unfiddled the normal lens is 30mm with a setting for full frame and panoramas and the 24mm Panoramic setting. Its lens at 30mm is quite impressive. Especially when you consider its small size.

I love my R1, but ...:
The 24mm lens of the R1, when modified to full frame, vignettes badly, so use it only when you like this! The lens is limited to a maximum aperture of 8 in 24mm mode. The AF works best in good light, in darker scenes it sometimes drives me mad.

Hi,

Thanks. I've never fiddled around with my one. I get enough aggro from cameras set up as the makers intended and so don't want to tempt fate.

Ultra wide fixed lens point and shoot camera? Don't think there is enough demand for anyone to make such a model. As an aside you can purchase a Slim Devil with a 22mm, 2 element f11 lens for $30 from Freestyle Photo. Otherwise I think you could put together a Voigtlander R4A and 21mm f4 Skopar.....for only $1220.....not cheap but it would be a quality wide angle point & shoot.

i have a vivitar ultra wide & slim, the camera to which the slim devil is a clone, and it's a fantastic little wonder, if you can cope with the occasional weird lens flare and having absolutely no controls whatsoever, only film advance and shutter button. the plastic lens can really shine given the right conditions...

Hey Marcelo,

what ASA did you shoot these on?

I want to get one and X-Pro slide film with it, but am afraid that my 160 film isn't "bright" enough.

Sorry I left this unattended for so long. Thanks for all the ideas. I ended up ordering a slim devil. The camera is really for my gf who has been complaining about how she wants a wider lens for her 5d but can't afford one. I can't afford to buy her one so I thought she might like to try out something cheap first. I'll probably shoot it some too. I'm pretty content with my M6 and 50 cron.

I forgot all about a recent garage sale find my wife brought home: Canon T-50, interchangeable lens SLR that only works in fully auto Program mode with motorized film advance. The one creative control: manually set ASA. Teamed with the last version of the Canon FD 24mm/2.8 FLE lens and you have a very compact wide point & shoot with GG focusing as needed. The camera also came with a 50/1.8 lens. 24 & 50 makes a good walk around combination.
Total investment: $60 (for the FD 24mm/2.8 lens).
