In the Al Kaplan memorial thread, monochromejrnl suggested posting wide-angle self-portraits, in Al's memory. This seemed like a great idea to me, but it didn't catch on. So I'm starting this thread, and a flickr group as well. Here's the group, please join!

And here's my WASP. Sorry it's not on film...M8 with CV15. I'm not grizzled enough, to be honest, but I made sure I hadn't trimmed my nose hairs beforehand.

I tried inviting a bunch of you on flickr, but the invitation interface was kinda confusing...sorry if you didn't get one...I'm sure I'm forgetting lots of people.

Cool idea! Al mostly used a Bessa L & 15mm with cheap color film. I got the L but only the 25/4 + plenty of cheap drugstore film. So two out af three ain't too bad I guess.

To Light & Love ...
It was this shot (Dr Cron / M2)
that had Al email me one day with a Silly Poem....
that's how we became Email/rff friends, along with the 21 SA Thread

Great thought! I'll do it this afternoon, I think I will be close with my 16mm Zenitar on my Pentax K10d. I hope others jump in too. Hope you are reading RFF Al.
Edit: I just saw what you did on Flickr, really great.

Great thread idea. Al's work with the 15 Heliar is legendary.
Technically speaking, Al's self portrait stuff was done with the camera held at arm's length pointed back, so that he was included in the frame, technically much harder to do than a mirror shot. And he was so good at it. The shots were always well composed and interesting.

I'll give this a go soon, thanks for the invite. I rarely turn the camera on myself (bit camera shy........) but I'm sure I can do something with the 28mm on my OM2.
I always loved this recent one he took - reminded me a lot about America and some of the terrific people I met.

Here you go, Al.

Here you go Al; don't forget to check in once in awhile. By the way, Al... I'm still picking those pixels out of my b**t.

Al and I had a few things in common.....
Age.... Al was a year older.
Leicas... Got hooked back in the late sixties when a friendly stranger placed an M2 in my hands.
Wide angles... 21mm was my favorite lens until I saw some of Al's 15mm shots. Soon got my own 15.
Hair.... Lots of it, at times almost down to my waist. The attached photo is with M4 and 15mm while the lady trims my split ends.
