Will IR filter solution be good enough for you?

From my experience the Digilux 2 was a major disappointment- I don’t like mine very much and went back to film as a result. Judging from the LCD controls perhaps Panasonic was a little too involved? I have had nothing but trouble with my Digilux 2 and Leica has been less then helpful so I am a little gun shy buying the camera right out of the gate (as I am with any new machine).

The new M8 is like a brand new F1 car from a new constructor in the sport. What surprises me? People actually expected the car to get out on the track and take the checkered flag without the need for fine-tuning and driver feedback first.

I was also surprised. I sent my Digilux2 in for repair under warrantee and it was returned some time later "fixed." Shortly after that it redeveloped the same problem. I called and at first they no longer had record of my camera!? I found the shipping doc and who signed for it and forwarded the information to them and they found my information😱 I then learned their is a problem with some motherboards on the Digilux2 and they were not sure if any new motherboards would be available so the camera may or may not be fixable- even though it's still under warrantee. Enter the M8 and it's banding and green blob issues that I suspect are similarly related to a circuit board so I am cautious before I purchase a new M8. That said I am sure the M8 is a different kettle of fish and that when I push for a solution, my Digilux2 will be repaired to my satisfaction.

Indeed, that is a five-minute job in postprocessing.

I have given the RAW files to my friends who have far more experience and are PS users at their work, to help me remove those glares; the "patch" still shows up, even on a cheap printer.

You must have over-stated about the solution.

I want you to try a filter on wider than 20mm lens and I don't care if it is a IR or not, the result is not predictable.

ESPECIALLY, when RF's are going to be shot in a high-dynamic range scenes where there will be a lot of chances to include bright points in the frame.

In my opinion majority of the Leica users will have the least amount of experience with the filters. So let's not over-estimate the luck.

Ok; I agree something like that sucks, I still think it would not be too hard in Photoshop but I defer to your experience with the original files. And I am basically anti-filter, see any of my previous posts on the subject for the same reasons you are - unless there is a photographic reason - Yellow filter, Pol-filter, 1A filter etc I will use gladly. For the M8 the IR filter will fall in that category, I predict. For the shots you posted it would indeed be a good idea to remove any filter - IR included. There are few nuns to be seen on the racing track.
