The whole idea of the new leica's beggining with hermes edition , where they took out the rangefinder illumination and put a led in there , got me thinking...

The x100 has a really close to rangefinder feeling when the box shows where you are focused at..

So in the future , since mirrorless is the future , will we see mirrorless cameras that have rangefinder focusing without the mechanical aspect..

I really can't live on a world without rangefinder focusing :(

What has always plagued me as an interesting idea. That ends up seeming like it would be more probable if someone were to hack the camera and develop the firmware themselves. Is just changing how the focus peaking appears in the viewfinder.

Sure it wouldn't be a mechanical rangefinder. But if someone was really lusting after that rangefinder feel when looking through the viewfinder. It should suffice rather well.

Focus peaking works pretty well and I for one don't find it irritating to work with alongside an analog rangefinder body.
