i think my first awareness of him was from the book resulting from the family of man exhibit. to my thinking, he and robert doisneau captured everyday life with a bit more warmth and humor than brassai and hcb.
that's not meant to take
anything away from brassai and hcb...what they did, and did so well, with their own inimicable style gave each their niche in photographic history.
...and all of this reminds of alfred eisenstadt. another family of man participant. a master of the tlr. "the father of photojournalism". quite an influence on me before, and after, i got involved in photography.
