Willy Ronis,another old French photographer

I found this guy while seaching for HCB stuff.
he was born in 1910 and is still alive.

He has a wonderful one of a tiny french boy running with a big baguette that I love. It's not on the site above, unfortunately.

I really like Vigneron; it is at once somewhat prosaic and very charming. Also love Café de France a lot.

xayraa33, thank you, thank you, for refreshing my (fogged/foggy) memory about willy ronis. merci beaucoup.

i think my first awareness of him was from the book resulting from the family of man exhibit. to my thinking, he and robert doisneau captured everyday life with a bit more warmth and humor than brassai and hcb.

that's not meant to take anything away from brassai and hcb...what they did, and did so well, with their own inimicable style gave each their niche in photographic history.

...and all of this reminds of alfred eisenstadt. another family of man participant. a master of the tlr. "the father of photojournalism". quite an influence on me before, and after, i got involved in photography.

I bought his Stolen Moments earlier this year. It has "Little Parisien" (the boy & baguette), "Cafe de France," and a lot of his better known photos, but also a lot of very haunting work, such as "Miner with Silicosis" which just knocks me over every time I see it.

Highly recommended.
