I have had this Yashica Mat EM for a long time. Took it out when I found it in storage and it seems to work still. Meter still works--tested against my CV Meter. But the winder crank I'm concerned about. I don't remember where this thing would end when you wind it once to advance film.

I put a roll in and first wind ended at about 8-7 o'clock before the shutter cocking wind. Then another wind and it ended at 9 o'clock. This goes on until the roll is done, but never exactly in the same spot once the film is advanced. The lever will go back to the counter window, but after the shutter is fired the wind will be ~ 3/4 revolution before it stops. Does this make sense?

Is this the way this is supposed to work?

Here is the order with the test film. All o'clock. 8/7, 9, 9+, 9+, 9+, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9-, 9

Thanks for any insight into how this thing works.

Just checked my EM and the first crank with a new roll stops at the 12:00 position. Each turn afterward stops over the handle storage hole..

I would run a test roll to see if it is working right since what I get may vary..

Sounds like the normal operation for a Mat , I have an EM ,66, & 124G and I think they all operate in a similar manner. As long as you get 12 movements and shutter firings then it is going its job correctly. I think the camera works on the thickness of the film to give the right spacing.

That seems about right. I just ran a junk roll through my Rollei, of which the Yashica Mat is a simplified copy -- same kind of variations in the throw of the crank. Just make sure the arrows on the backing paper are correctly lined up with the indicators on the camera when you load the film. If the numbers are in the centre of the counter window when you wind on the film and the crank stops at the window when wound back to cock the shutter, everything should be OK.

Hey, Thanks for the help. The numbers did line up in the counter window. I'll run a roll through it and see what comes out.
