Winding & Street Photography

I have no problem advancing with a lever or a knob, because I take my time anyhow and because most of my lever winders are bessa's I tend to baby the advance anyway. My stupid:bang: is forgetting to look through the rangefinder window to focus on my fsu's. I have become so accustomed to my canonet & bessa L, I constantly have to remember to tell myself to look through the rf window & focus, then switch over to the vf & shoot.

For me there's another factor that has to do more with being "street
photography ready" ... than the type of winder. This is Israeli security.
I present a different image with a substantial metal & black vulcanite
camera hanging on my chest... vs. camera in a small bag. For example,
some months ago, I was stopped on the way into Shaare Zedek Hospital,
where I had an outpatient med appointment. No cameras allowed. This
is ridiculous, as everyone walks around with elfin digicams with 2.5 inch
monitors.

On a more recent business visit to the same hospital, I hid my Fed-2 in
a brief case under some stuff, because they can't search every pocket
and compartment without going crazy. On the street, however, there's
no substitute for camera at ready, on one's chest... or in hand with a
wrist strap.

I have a black Fed 2, diopter corrected and would not think of using it for quick shots. The wind is too slow for me---even if I were to send it to Oleg for "silencing" which I am considering.

Hummm, I smell some disapointment there. Don't worry, time heals everything.

Degustibus non es diputantem... That's Latin for,
"You cannot dispute taste." I have one Leica, and
it is single stroke [M2]. My Fed-2b is, as many strokes
or turns, as it takes to turn the knob 😀
