Hi All, I'm sure by now most of you have seen the Winograd video that is making the rounds. I watched it and was fascinated by his technique on the streets, he just ignores everyone and his movements with the camera border on ADHD. What he says about photography and pictures is very interesting too, I like the statement that a picture is nothing but light on shape.
I also was reminded of the Joel Meyerowitz street photography video that made the rounds some time back. The contrast in styles is great. They seem to be polar opposites in presence and interaction with the street.
which is the greater artist, photographer? Which will leave the biggest impact? Which has the most beat up Leica?
Thanks Jim

There is a book called "Bystander: A History of Street Photography" which Meyerowitz was a co-author. There is a chapter about what it was like when he hung out with Winogrand in the 60's-70's and they used to go out on the streets of NY to shoot.

Too bad it is now out of print, but if you can find a copy check it out.

It may be out of print but I just received a copy that I ordered from an Amazon seller. Not expensive either. A great book for we students of street photography.

You mean that aged bank robber guy was a photographer? Damn.

"...and they won't see me because I'll...convince them in some way that I'm not there."

I do like the what I've seen of the man's pictures, and I hate to guffaw at someone who seems so damned sincere, but that whole invisiblity thing! Coming from a guy who moves like a star basketball player and looks like Bull from Night Court!

He can sure shoot irony, though...

...and he's dead right about remaining alert!

Just looked for this book on Amazon and the cheapest used is about £80, around $140 USD! Ouch!!
