If you ever visit the Daimler Benz Museum in Stuttgart, you will see some awesome cars. One of them is a huge convertible. It is a piece of art. A Van Gough Mercedes, so to speak. It is that beautiful.

Another beauty was a convertible that used to belong to the King of Iraq. There were only three such Hunting Mercedes ever made. The car had a stool on the outside on which the King would sit, while trying to hunt.

The one on the OP is also a true work of art no matter what it is. Normally my appreciation of cars is seriously skewed by my engineering background but in cases like this aesthetics trumps all.

I had one, a 1962. Nothing like it, expensive to keep up, but boy when you landed on the freeway at 90 mph. I would still have it but some jerk stole it. I called the police after a week and asked if they had any leads: 'no, we don't even look for them just put them on the hot sheet.'

Michael: if you like this Auburn, do a google image search on "Duesenberg SJ". The chassis weight alone of some Duesenbergs exceeded 5,000 lbs, if I remember correctly. The Great Depression eventually swept away Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg, not surprisingly, given their expense.
