ok, this might not seem like big news to some but it's epic for me.

i only have one item left in the 'items i'm watching' category on ebay!

if i can hold to this then just maybe it will be the start of my rehabilitation.
i need to spend more money on film and processing, less on 'stuff'.

i have about 7 (ebay) items that have been 'won' and paid for and will soon be here. (soon being a relative term)

keep your fingers crossed and if i am able to overcome this addiction, then i will let you all know how it's been, how it feels and i will help othere to overcome their addictions.
this is my promise;)

"... ignorance is bliss," as it's said. If you don't know about any hot items on eBay, then you won't be tempted to bid. So as long as you stay off eBay you're safe! Good luck! ;-)

I'm afraid staying away from ebay won't help me much... For the last three months I haven't bought anything from ebay, but still spent more on gear in those three months than in previous two years from ebay....
Joining RFF hasn't helped, either. ;)
Buying my first Leica just made my addiction more expensive. Think about lens shades that cost from $50 upwards! (NO, I don't have any original ones!)

I think it was FrankS who said that we should just pack our gear in boxes and keep sending it to each other. Should be much cheaper :D
But, I'm not complaining. I much prefer buying from/trading with RFF members than playing the ebay roulette!

Great idea. This is my promise.

If I were to register on e-bay, that would be the end of my marraige for sure! Rather than a collector, I would label myself as a gear-head, equipment nut, or camera sl*t.

I am also a RFF addict!

Joe.....are you watching that canon 7 that is $66 or the 7s?

:D

I "got the talk to" so my ebay days are on hold....Can't blame her though.

don't know if this is a good thing or not but...

...i just won that auction for my last on the watch list item.

a nice canon lenshood for the 135/3.5

Remission

A few years ago I nearly threw away a brand new Nikon FM2...it was still in it's shipping box in my garage and that was the day I decided to never again own more cameras than I could use (and keep track of...:)).

Cameras ebb and flow around here and at the moment the tide is high; sometimes I have to buy a camera to get a particular lens, or a lens to get a hard to find hood. Now I am getting rid of some of the accumulated excess. Gear is nice but I really enjoy getting out and using what I have.

I watched in horror as a 135 3.5 Canon LTM in BLACK went for $41 yesterday. I had bid, even though I have both the black and the silver, when it was at $31 or so. Still, I kick myself. Why? I don't need it. But $41? DANG!

The seller said it was in good shape - had clear lenses and dust inside that WOULD affect the images - I think he says that on all his auctions - in any case, dust can be dealt with easily on those older lenses.

$41? Man.

Sometimes you have to make the only reasonable decision, which is of course to buy:D. Yesterday a Contax IIIa outfit (IIIa, 50/1.5 Sonnar, 135/4 Sonnar, and the kicker...a 21/4.5 Biogon plus many accessories) went for the price of the 21mm lens alone -- how could one possibly resist such temptation? The answer is simple -- you don't!

In my case, I watched as someone else won the lens. $41 makes me cry - but I already have one in black and one in chrome!

Trying SO HARD to exercise some restraint!

So, D2 - you bought it? :D

Try to have some restraint when you have an $850 balance in your Pay Pal account. Should I pay for the stuff I bought last month, or......

Well, I think I have officially run out of things to sell, and it is time to take some time off from my wheeling dealing ways of the past couple months and just take some pictures.

Yes, I kept reloading the page expecting the price to move somewhere towards reality, but it didn't so I felt compelled to act.

After a few years of searching last week I finally located a rigid barrel 50/3.5 Tessar (difficult lens to find, older collapsibles are fairly common) but it was also attached to a IIIa. That's what I mean about the ebb and flow; I do not need these two IIIa's but sometimes circumstances seem to dictate destiny.

I hope you see your camera soon and that you are pleased with it. I presume you will let us know when it arrives? :)))

It's those durned favorite searches that getcha! I had automatic e-mails sent to me anytime my "Perkeo" search came up with something new. That went on for about a month until I got my Isolette (with Solinar no less ;) ), which I'm still waiting for from Holland. :(

Until it gets here, I keep "browsing."

Joe, I'm sorry - I did think about posting it here just before it closed - I was at work and outbid, could not get to ebay to post another bid from work (just got the 'you've been outbid' email is all), but I thought for sure that everyone here would be following this one - really!

According to Dante Stella, the black 135 is the sharper of the two - I find no difference myself, but the black is considerably lighter and looks sharp as heck. I need to do a side-by-side comparo to see for sure.

My apologies, Joe. I'll be happy to feed you info on things I find in the future if you like!

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks
