I'm just wondering why the 60's focuses so much on 3 days when there is sooooo much more that was awe inspiring
The sixties marketed today is nothing at all like the sixties I remember living in. I remember war, death, violence, assassinations, anger, a fair bit of social progress, and going to the Moon. Against that, rock concerts kinda fade away in significance.

The sixties were a time of changes. Racial integration was starting to happen, the "womens' movement" was getting underway, birth control pills became available, Timothy Leary introduced the world to LSD, it became all too obvious that smoking pot wasn't going to kill you or turn you into a heroin addict. The nice seventy-something year old white haired lady a few houses down the street decided to see if the mushrooms the neighborhood teenagers were gathering would make good mushroom soup. Every afternoon a bunch of elderly ladies would sit down with a bunch of teens, listen to the the 'Dead and the 'Stones, knit, drink coffee, and everybody would be giggling, but the ladies wouldn't smoke.
The young men didn't want to go off to an unpopular war. Many went to Canada. The war backfired in a way nobody could forsee. Kids who never would have moved from beer to pot in this country came back from 'Nam confirmed smokers. Good old Uncle Sam offered them the G.I. Bill. They went off to college. Some majored in agriculture. Pretty soon people were cross breeding various strains of cannibus sativa. They understood genetics. They learned about hydroponic gardening. Cultivating corn in Iowa was just so boring! Not when you could be raising pot ten times as potent as grandpa used to smoke. And all of this happened with your tax dollars courtesy of Republican presidents and Republican administrations. Who was it that said "...but I didn't inhale!" (Maybe he was eating mushroom soup?)

Maybe he was, but without the help of Republicans we wouldn't have such good dope. Now there's talk of legalizing it because it's now the biggest cash crop in California.
I miss Mrs. Washburn's mushroom soup.

Just the once.....I'd like to have seen Jimi doing his stuff - with that 'wrong way round' guitar! ...
I managed to see him at the `70 Isle of White festival. First saw Dylan at the `69 festival. They were never the ideal way to hear the music though. I went to quite a few and worked on one. Got a couple of pics of the `70 IOW taken with my fathers Kodak Hawkette 2. A 1930 bakerlight,Art Deco job.

Just 40 years since Woodstock!...it's a long shot - but did anyone here go? and even take pictures?...wish I had!
Dave.
I was chief photographer of our college paper and a couple of the other photographers and i were going to drive up but the trip was a long one and the weather was questionable so we decided to go the next year:bang:
One of the guys changed his mind and went on up. This is one of the big thing in my life that I would change if I could go back.
Next year.

It was a great era with some fantastic music, and even today's teens claim that the analog vinyl sounds better than digital CD's. I just wish that I'd bought more vinyl when close-outs were just a buck or two still sealed in cellophane.

Interesting observation on the Republican Party...The ones who call the Democrats "LIBERAL"....Who is calling WHO, WHAT????....
As long as "BIG $$$" can be made....Party morals go down the drain!!! "R" or "D" inclusive! In the Straights of Poverty (Government Bankruptcy: that is)
I wander about the Prohibition now?? Who Started the talks in that? to legalize Alcohol?....Obviously, the same motivation was there...A Big Cash Crop with Taxing it!

Yes, went to Knebworth and have a few crowd shots, Bath Blues festival which had Led Zep and JA. A pal of mine used to work for Freddie Bannister who was the chap running Bath and he used to reresent JA`s record label. Grunt I think it was.I really missed out when I worked the Lincoln festival. No camera and the line up was Byrds,Dion, Sonny Terry ,Tim Hardin (had a job getting him on stage)Buffy St Marie and James Taylor. Missed out again when we worked with the Byrds on their Liverpool concert. The opening act was going to be Linda Ronstat but she dropped out and was replaced by a new comer, Rita Coolidge and the Dixie Flyers. Spent some time talking to Rita and then off she went with some Kris bloke. I ask you.You should always have a camera with you but as Al says in some situations it would not be polite.Although I'm quite old enough for these 'shindigs'....my enthusiasm seemed to really fire up later on in the seventies - with the likes of Led Zep, Floyd, Purple, Bad Co. etc. ....and later the Donnington, Knebworth etc. gigs....oh! Obama,Bush,Obama. All of them want to spend us into poverty. Spend, spend. BTW the actual definition from the 19th century of liberal as in less government, more independence. Throw all the bums out. BTW where did all that bailout money go? OK I am losing it.Interesting observation on the Republican Party...The ones who call the Democrats "LIBERAL"....Who is calling WHO, WHAT????....

This was about the time of the day when we'd gather at Mrs. Wabburn's house for fresh coffee and home made mushroom soup.
