I am trying to come up with photography projects (and goals…ehem!) this year and have laid out some themes to work on. Giving myself the timeframe to finish each theme (sort of a deadline as though I haven’t enough 🙂 ). May I know what your thoughts are on the following, among other things?

  • Is it a good idea to work on two themes at the same time?
  • How many cameras and/or lenses at least must be involved on each occasion?
  • Relative to the latter, is the choice of medium really that important?
  • Is shooting in group helpful?
  • As I work full time on weekdays, like most guys here probably do, how many days or weeks must I allocate to a theme?
Thanks everyone in advance and best regards.

A bit vague. When I have themes in mind I usually keep 2-3, maybe 4 in mind. No point in walking past one while on the way to the other. As far as cameras/lenses go, unless that is the theme, why would it matter? The other points I cannot speak to.

I think all of the answers to your questions are completely subjective.

Why not look at your preferences in similar situations. For example:

• Is it a good idea to talk on the phone and watch TV at the same time?
• How many sets of utensils do you use to eat a five course meal?
• Relative to the latter, is your choice of drink really that important?
• Is shooting in group helpful to you?
• Since you work full-time, how much free time do you have when you factor in other obligations besides work?

That's how I see it anyway..?

(IMHO)

I can see your original post now, thanks! I would agree the queries are vague, especially as to the nature of the themes. I call them projects, and in my case at least they continue for years. I don't allocate any particular time or gear to any one project. A project may fade away or change over time, and even if I'm concentrating on one theme, as mentioned above if I see a good opportunity to add to a previous theme I certainly won't ignore it! I tend to think shooting in a group is never useful, but that's just me.
