Cameras. I has it.
Heh. They got the date wrong: 1838, not 1938.
According to this,
Daguerre made an earler photo in 1836 showing people.

It's been a long time since I have felt good enough to make a day out of just doing photography. So, when I was reminded about WPD23 a plan was hatched to get a photo I have wanted for many years. I drove all the way from Roanoke, VA to Reidsville, NC for this one photo. But never fear, I got some others for a bit of gravy on top.
The one photo I wanted:

Water and Smoke by P F McFarland, on Flickr
On the way to Reidsville, I came across this lot of abandoned trucks and trailers. I recognized this Ford CL 9000 cabover even under all the kudzu as one that I wish I'd owned back when I was trying to get a job in the trucking industry in the late 1970's. Actually got to drive an International Transtar II which was a sweet ride, but eventually I went to work for the railroad.

Switching back to color I came across a rare 1956 Nash Ambassador Super in really good shape parked in downtown Reidsville. They had a unibody and tended to rust out badly which makes them fairly scarce. You'll notice I was able to get the street sign support right between the Lucky and Strikes on the smokestack in the background.
