Would the real Leica please stand up?

The real Leica was created early last century when someone decided it would be cool to make a little body that could take stills using movie film. Nothing else has really mattered since! 😀

Oh goody! I have a Mini, a Mini II, and a Mini 3 that all say Leica and have red dots. That's three real Leicas! Almost forgot, I also have a IIIf RDST. I guess that's a Leica too. 😀 😀 😀

Catty, insecure remark from that woman.
I've seen it happen with other things: purses, watches, shoes, clothes. Even pianos (happened to me when I bought my wife a Steinway grand).

An insecure person will always find a way to try to transfer their anxieties to you.

Ignore her. If she wasn't carrying it with her, there is no proof that she even owns one.

I can tell you what isn't a real leica, and that's the leica SL. I finally got to see and play with one.....horrendous.
Forget what image quality it produces, i just don't want to walk around with a surface to air rocket launcher.

Lol ... not impressed huh! 😀

I brought my M3 to a wedding last weekend, and had a lot of fun talking to people about it (including the photographer!).

But something one person said struck me as, well, interesting. She said, "I have a real Leica, an M9".

I told her politely that many would say the M3 was "realer" (including me!).

Obviously, I chose my forum here carefully, but what do you all think?

She was either abysmally ignorant, or else she was teasing you with a tongue in cheek comment, perhaps designed to determine your attitude toward digital photography.

Both are real, obviously. If in doubt, do the quick and dirty reality check: throw both of them from a balcony (or the nearest precipice) and if, as expected, they cause a massive dent on the pavement, well, they are real enough. Yes, an expensive but definitive way to decide the matter. 😀 It has to be said, however, the two Ms do embody different designs (there are similarities too, of course). So, the question is which one is more, how should we say, fundamental to Leica? The statement by the lady obviously indicates her preference for one them. But you don't want that, you want the matter to be resolved without resorting to preferences, for obvious reasons. Well, here goes: The design (in this case the M3) which is temporally prior can also be claimed to be causally ancestral to the later one. That doesn't make the latter design somehow flawed or inadequate or whatever. It's just that one of the two is fundamental in a way the other isn't (as a matter of fact) for the first.

There, problem solved. 😀

that or perhaps she was jealous of the attention you were getting with your M3 that she had to announce to everyone that she also owns a Leica

Nah, i thought it would be a lot smaller. Body is ok, then you got this bazooka hanging off the end of it. As a package deal, its just so not Leica.
It was no different to holding my OMD with the Nikon 300 at the end of it....lol. 😀
