i like the size of the 27...on the xe1 it will make a very compact package.

the RX-1 is a superb camera, not for me though, but for a 'one/camera/one lens guy' it could be the only camera one ever needs

The 35 isn't very big, and it's super lightweight! I know the 27 will shave off an inch of length or something, but think in general terms - it's not something you need now that's going to improve your life in any way!

This is me. M7 and 35 cron asph, mah-iphone, and now the RX1. It just made sense.
Wait until you hold one in your hands and take it out for a walk. I don't mind the LCD for shooting since I use my iphone for pictures too.
Some people are more sensitive to focal lengths than others. To me, there is a huge difference between 40.5mm and 52.5mm. To others, not so much.

If you are measuring in tenths of a millimeter then clearly you are more sensitive to focal lengths than most.

What would be "perfect" about the RX1 given your experience with other cameras thus far?

To each his own....I won't give up the Epsons, the Fuji X series, the M6, the ZI and the Bessa R4A. Whenever I travel I put them in my Think Tank roller and off we go.
tenths? I see 12mm difference. Unless you meant the use of .5? That was due to the crop factor.

i have been partial to the 40 ever since my first cle...loved that 40!
i like that it's so close to 35 yet not as 'tight' as a 50.
i do see/feel a difference.

a camera/lens combo made for each other...
a no decision kit...pick it up and you know what's in your hand...
becoming so aware of your gear that it's a second nature/no thought process...
i like the feel of the camera having held/played with it a bit...
The only perfect camera is the one not owned. Once you own it, you realize there is no such thing as perfection...just great ones and bad ones.

I am a gear head and for me that is part of the fun. Plus a lot depends on the type of photography I am interested in shooting that day. A reason instill have dslr around is because if I need the reach of a long tele (greater than 135 or 200), there is nothing that beats them whether u are talking about a CaNikon dslr, the m43 gh1/2/3 or omd. The good thing is that none of the photography I like to shoot is fast action, so most of the time af speed is not an issue w/ me.

i also am a gearhead...but with a neurotic bent that wants to keep things simple.
i could easily live with one body and a 35mm lens...tho 40 would be the best!!
i like playing with different gear too, i buy i sell i try as much as i can afford to.
in the end, the secret inner goal is to be able to grab everything i own and run with it in case of fire!

An example, I gave the omd two tries and did not like it.. Then I had a chance to try it for some long tele shots and it came into its own.. The image stabilization setup on that camera is great.. So now I own one :angel:

That stupid function dial would drive me nutZ!
Why not a traditional shutter speed dial. The number of times I shoot in AE and then quickly fix a shutter speed with the Fuji cameras I can not count.
It would be sorely missed with this Sony. It's just not perfect. 🙁

another positive in my book is you do not get tempted, for obvious reasons, to buy any lenses, you just use it for what it is.
this was one of the reasons i went with Plaubel Makina over Mamiya 7, knowing myself, I d rest only after I had hunted down all available Mamiya lenses.
fullframe, super-sensor with amazing hi iso, close focusing, digital 50mm function should you once need it, superb lens, above average manual focus, makes this a winner, the only downsize is for now the price and the battery life. sizewise about as a small as a (small) m43 body, not much to dislike there.

i think we're talking about different kinds of perfect...yes, if the sony had a built in finder, better controls it would be perfect for some.
for me, as a happy and satisfied user of the rx100, the rx1 would be just fine.
perfect, for me, in this instance is body and lens made for each other, full frame sensor, 35mm zeiss lens...a simple camera.

I'm working on my review of the RX1 right now, but in the time I spent with it, I did not "bond" with the camera, not like I did with the X100 when I had that. It's built well, and seemed to have good image quality, but I just couldn't get into the groove of the camera. I'm sure it would be possible after a number of months, but it really bothered me that things didn't work the way I expected them to.
Don't even get me started on the cost of the camera.
On top of the cost, they only give you a power cable to charge the battery (meaning the battery has to be in the camera). You have to go third party if you want to charge batteries externally (like every other camera out there). That's silly.
