I quite agree, I am merely saying that you may as well make a decision with as much information available to you as possible. If the M10 was a year away, jump in and get an M9, but a month away, probably best to wait and see what happens. Hell, the M10 may appear, and Leica makes the M9 the "affordable" alternative.

There is no question the M9 is a great camera, and good enough for 99.999% of us, but personally, I'd rather make a decision based on as much info as possible.

If someone really, honestly answered the question, the camera will be sufficient even after all the marketing hype about the next and the next and the... version has been vanished.

With the extreme speed of development in electronics the "life cycle" is becoming incredibly short - IF YOU BELIEVE what marketing is telling you.

If the M9 is a great camera today ( I DO believe it is for MY needs) then it will be a great camera still in a couple of years, simply because it is good enough already.
Don't jump into the hamster wheel of more Mpix, higher ISO, higher frame rate. Learn to distinguish between "nice to have" and necessary needs for your purpose. The M9 will not be the latest after the M10, yes....

Because its only a months wait - potentially saving you thousands of dollars.

But hey, if you are rich and don´t care then why bother asking in the first place.

Thousands?

I really suspect it's a (very) few hundred at most. Depends on what several months without the camera is worth to you.

Cheers,

R.

I say get an M9, I just bought one last month and am very happy with it. IMO the prices are not going to drop enough to warrant waiting, if they go down a bit you can balance that out for have had the camera and enjoyed it several months sooner. The only reason i would wait is if you want the (currently) mythical M10 or a Monochrom... the M9 is exceptional at what it does and will continue to be. if it fits your needs and you are ok with the price then there is no reason to wait :)

I don't think the M9 will drop in price (for new units.) I think Leica should drop the price, but doubt they will. There should be plenty of used ones on the market though, so the aftermarket price will drop. It will be interesting to see if initial M10 availability will be constrained like the M9 was (by design or not.)

The M9 is worth every penny. Use it now, and don't worry about the future M10 or whatever. Also, if the M10 was released on September it will probably be around 8-10k USD with a wait list of 1 year....

Will this start some sort of mass sell-off of used M9's as demand for m-mount FF digital cameras becomes sated.
