Would You sell M and stay with a T3?

I wouldnt just keep the T3 and sell the Leica. T3 is electrical and if/when that one fails its beyond repair, the Leica goes on forever (even after an EMP) and they also have other purposes. On the contax its basically just electrical control vs Leicas manual control.

thanks David.

Would You consider film suitable for color?

So The only way I can obtain a print from a slide is scanning and printing?

Cheers.

Hi,

I use colour print and slide film in all my P&S's from time to time and B&W (usually Ilford's FP4+).

Mostly I use slide film for testing and some processors will scan it for you. Mine are scanned to 1536 x 1028 which is good enough for the monitor but not really for printing. It might work at 200dpi (about 7 x 5"), I'll have to try it. I don't know who will scan cheaply/affordably but I guess there are scanners that will do it. Sorry I can't say more.

Regards, David

Thanks David, I have Minolta Multi Pro and sometimes scan them up to 4800... but.. I feel I'm missing something without doing wet prints.

So... better to stay just with T3 and do the hard job for labs or skillful people, or just going again to digital, take a R1Xr/x100/x2 and a sigma DP3M and go on? and of course save a lot of money... mmmmmm, blowing my mind these days.

I used to own an MP, sold it, don't miss it.

I agree with Frank Petronio really, 35mm is great for tiny, convenient cameras, but for medium size cameras such as Leica, you may as well go medium format, the cameras are not any bigger, sometimes smaller.

A Zeiss Super Ikonta III will give 6x6 negatives and is cheaper, smaller, and lighter than a Leica M. A GF670 is only a bit bigger than a Leica, folds up small, has AE, and a fraction of the price of an MP.

Mamiya 7, Rolleiflex, Plaubel etc. are all great options too. If you're happy with the T3 (I would be), then the Leica MP is a way of hoarding money for no reason.

On totally the opposite side, the heart will always want what it wants, and you may feel that a Leica is the only camera which will satisfy you. I don't feel that way, but totally get that for some people only a Leica will do. I get it, I understand it, and you don't have to fight it.

I think you should ask yourself .
if you sell it all but the T3 can you stay focuses and concentrate on your vision of good work?
(Sorry for the puns).

It's different for everyone but, it also changes for everyone. Very few artists whether photography, charcoal, wood, steel or oil paints… etc can resist the call of new tools.
Try and stay focused on your goals and at the same time experiments with optional tools.
That's the best you can do.
At this point I would say sell it all and keep the T3 😀

One more thought.

Socially it's east to become part of a gear forum.
We can easily dicuss and argue the tools of the trade on this forum without having to discuss the output each individual participating is getting from such gear. In other words we seldom need to be subjective when talking about the kit. "It" can fail for whatever reason and the photog (us) can be exonerated..
It's easy to be obbjective and just talk about kit unrelated to our needs or ability to exploit "it" ( again the kit).
It's best in my opinion to balance the time on gear forums with time spent participating on "art" spaces.
If it's old deviantart, flickr, tumbler, FB or even in the gallery here……etc..
Spend time looking at images and ignoring technical hyperbole .

Things change for us who are image makers. Those who participate in the online world of art and tech learn of new tools and are constantly in a stream of distraction.
We live in a time of more options than time to explore such options. You gotta trim that Sh!it down to a simmer so you can manage to be productive with what you have learned to master.
It's different for everyone.

That said… again for the to many-ith time, go with your impulse and trim it to the T3 😛

Hi,

I used to do all my own developing and enlarging, colour slides and B&W. I think it's over rated. Also it was expensive, most of the solutions had to be discarded before they had been fully used. Making enough solution for 5 or 6 films when I only had two to do was expensive. Saving three and doing them all one evening meant I lost a lot of sleep but had fresh solution for everything. Things may have changed but I'm happy with the people who do it for me nowadays.

Regards, David

PS FWIW, I wonder at times about selling everything and just using the Contax Tix...

I would go through the pictures I've taken with both cameras and see which ones feel better to me. I've tried MF, SLR's, rangefinders and compacts. I got rid of all and kept 3 SLR's and a rangefinder. All were excellent cameras but the pictures from the MF and compacts where nothing special to me. MF takes a lot of time to compose and shoot and compacts felt too small on my hands. This had an impact on the pics I was taking.

thank guys.

I've been thinking and looking pictures of GF670, Hasselblad, T3, MP... all look gorgeus, all of them. It's more the artistic way than the technical way in the end but tech is an important thing as well if You want finish your work to the best quality possible.

Tomorrow I will make my chose, and start thinking just in pictures.

I think you need to ask yourself if you 'love' the MP, if you don't, it's way too much money to have wrapped up in a camera that you only 'like'.

Could the money be put to better use, i.e. travel?

I used to use a Leica, and switched to a Nikon 35ti, I actually preferred the Nikon, for a number of reasons, film loading, a great meter, I didn't miss the Leica for a second.

So true.

It's like picking a life partner. Go with what gets you going. Then have the strength of mind to stick with your choice when temptation comes knocking, knowing that what you've chosen works, is good and makes you happy.

The only camera which I recover (the same, not the same model, I meant camera) after selling, has been my MP, not one, two but three times.

Good grief, unless I am confusing you with another Bruno, you do seem to have an almost permanent problem of gear angst (GAS or whatever you want to call it).😱 Weren't you using a Monochrom a few weeks ago? It now sounds like you have decided that you want to use film. As such, I suggest sticking with your MP and favourite focal length lens and put all thought of other gear out of your mind for at least six months, preferably longer. If you keep chopping and changing equipment only madness lies ahead.😀

On a more general level, it sounds like you get a lot of enjoyment out of other people's photography (part of the GAS problem seems to stem from your desire to emulate photography that has inspired you). I don't think there is anything wrong with stepping back a little and asking yourself why you are trying to emulate/copy these photographs? Why not just enjoy them for their own sake and let your own photography follow its own course (which may actually result in you no longer pursuing photography as an active participant). It may sound drastic but there is nothing wrong with enjoying photography as an art form – going to exhibitions, buying books and prints, looking at work on websites, tumblr, etc – whilst not "doing" photography as a hobby.
