The 5d is worth it just so you can get the 50mm 1.2, a 1.2 lens thats easy to focus at 1.2!

How about a zeiss planar 50/1.4 on the 5D? I have the ZF (nikon mount) on my 5D. It's a big heavy thing and completely manual but it's a great lens. If I had a mk2 5D I don't think i'd sell for an M8 unless I really wanted a Leica/rangefinder as the 5D mk1 outperforms the M8 in pretty much every area besides portability and prestige. I should also say that my M8 is sick and back at Solms for the second time in a few years so reliability may also be an issue for some people. I can live with the reliabilty problems as I have the 5D or the GF1 to fall back on but I certainly wouldn't have it as my only camera and especially not if I were using it for paid work.

I own the M8 and the 5D MkII. I use the 5D MkII fairly regularly. When I have to get a shot and I don't have much time, I use the 5D MkII. It is incredibly versatile. It is not my most used camera - that would be the Sigma SD1. But the 5D MkII is very useful.
Unfortunately, the M8 just sits in a bag. I use it once in a while for IR photography. It is great for that. But my biggest problem with it is that the sensor always seems to be dirty no matter how careful I am. The shutter is loud and the low light sensitivity is not close to the 5D MkII.
So given the choice keep the 5D MarkII.

Weird - I thought I was on a rangefinder forum here… My mistake….🙄 It is just that I am so mightily impressed by these great photographers stopping by to explain the vast difference this immense quality gap makes to their art.😱
Come on guys, put two prints side by side and compare. Up to ISO 1600 the M8 print will be clearly preferable. Better colour, better acuity, better rendering.
People moan about the M8 being old technology - well, the 5D series sensor is from the old 1D which is a direct descendant from the 30D from the late nineties….
