Would you trade a Noctilux for a M8?

I had Noctilux one time bought real cheap and sold it for much better price.
Now I'm waiting for Hexanon 50mm f1.2 limited at much cheaper price.

The lens keep the value, but not the digital camera body. However there are plenty of lenses out there that can work as well as Noctilux.

The M-Hexanon is certainly a very good lens, and a very good compromise between the look of the Nocti and the Lux ASPH. Build is equal to the Leica but earlier numbers may have focusing issues (below 50). 2001 copies were made and I do not consider them expensive when compared to the Lux ASPH and the Nocti.
 
Bodies come and go. Always put money in the glass even if I have to shoot with a Bessa T.
 
I have a Noctilux. I have a R-D1. Do I want an M8? maybe at the right price. Would I trade my Noctilux for it? No way. But I might trade my Xpan with standard and 30mm lenses for one. In fact, if I weren't so lazy I probably would have sold the Xpan already...Not sure if I would have bought the M8 with the proceeds though. I like my R-D1 and it works with all of my lenses. Might be a different story for the M8.

I agree with this. The M8 is an exiting digital camera. The best there is for the M-system, - but frustrating at times. The Noctilux has it's charming sides, but is a difficult lense to use properly. Just as frustrating, actually. Try place a 1,5 cm DOF correctly at a 2 meters distance. Hand held. I would rather do that with a digital camera than with a film body. You just might end up with spending a pallet of film before you get it right.

Thanks to the very favorable currency situation right now, - it was just too tempting, I have bought myself a 1Ds III. It turned out 15% cheaper than the 1Ds I bought back in 2003, and some 6% cheaper than my 1Ds II - bought in 2006. - In my local currency.

With the US Fed's prime rate lower than US inflation right now, I should be able to trade my wife's Toyota Corolla in for a cattle farm in Texas, - by June. Extend my gratitude to Federal Reserve Board Chairman Bernanke for me, will you.

One day I will sell a Yugo and buy a US state (preferably Florida or California). You think that tme is near?

By Christmas you should be able to get a whole Florida and a half California for a whole Yugo. By then: You'll get a 2.hand ex. Fed. Reserve Chairman along as a bonus. Nice to have, - he?

I dont think Florida is for sale. It was bought by Bush senior for Bush junior three elections ago he he
 
I have an M8 and a Noctilux. I'd trade the M8 before the Noctilux for many of the reasons stated here. Sure it's heavy, cranky and expensive but f1 is a drug and when you capture the right shot with it, it's pretty amazing on any body. The M8 is a good camera, but I'm still miffed about the "upgrade plan", which does not address the UV issues or give you a full-frame. Certainly they should have hit on the UV issue with this upgrade assuming the mechanics (size restrictions) prevent a full frame sensor. While the Noctilux is "perfect" and remains so into the future.
 
The Noctilux is an absolutely gorgeous lens. I use it a lot at F1.0 and the narrow depth of field and bokeh create wonderful images. Used as a normal lens, the colour quality is pretty terrific as well. So keep the lens whatever using it with an older Leica M until you have the cash for the M8.
 
well, could one save enough from not having to process film by using an M8, and hence the value of owning an M8 be more sound monetary wise, than buying a Noct outright?
