My RD-1 has been sitting on a shelf a bit un-loved lately.

The new fuji is well new and sexy!

Would you make the trad in?

Personally I would. However, are you going to like the fixed lens? What other cameras do you use other than the R-D1?

PS: Where you posted this topic leads me to believe you don't want to. :)
 
It really depends on you.
Unlike jsrockit, I wouldn't. ;)
Sorry to confuse you more, but I am sure you kind of expected that.
 
I'm not going to trade in (or up, as some may see it)
I like the flexibility of "M" mount (and LTM with adapters) on digital.
but do enjoy studying/reading/looking - all about the new x100.
 
Short answer: no

Just a few months back I traded my X100 pre-order for an RD1 thanks to you guys.

Initially it sounded great. Once I found out that you couldn't truly focus without using the EVF I was disheartened. Focus-by-wire was the icing on the cake.

I have an M8 now too and still use the RD1 a ton.
 
No, I wouldn't. The X100 surely is an interesting camera, but the RD1 is my favourite camera and I would not even trade it for a M8. It all depends on the handling and the images. I love the RD1-handling and the quality is absolutely okay. Also, I sometimes like to change lenses, although I mostly use a 28mm currently (which is very similar to the 23mm of the Fuji, given the crop-factor).
 
Certainly not.

The R-D1 is a unique camera. The only one digital in the world with a lever.
A 7 years-old camera but not obsolete yet (its 6MP sensor still beats lot of recent cameras) - it's a collectable item, a kind of cult.

The X-100 is a P&S with the clothes of a RF.
Certainly, the IQ seems to be very good in low light and high ISO, but tomorrow we'll have a X-200 with better IQ, then an other brand releasing such a camera with interchangeable lenses : the maximum life of X-100 will be two years.
IMHO the wire focus and pseudo RF are redhibitory.
Even M8 (because of the shutter noise and IR filters) can't be a good trade with R-D1 for me.
The only current camera which what I would change my R-D1 is the M9.
 
Another no here. The RD1 is the camera I use most lately -- but you don't.

No, because X100 has not distance/focus scale on the lens.
I heard that distance is visible in viewfinder (excellent feature!), but why not on the lens?
 
I was out shooting last week with both my RD1 and the X100 and enjoyed the experience of both. The Fuji is an excellent low light shooter and the RD1 let me use my CV15mm which is my fave at the moment. My 35mm UC-Hexanon is proving a tad too long on the RD1 for my liking having used a 28mm prevously. I've also been out with just the Fuji and shot all day on the street with it and had no problems. Of course thwew was the odd occaision where a slightly wider or longer focal length may have been handy but that's all. If you can get away with using just a 35mm focal length then it's a fine camera. I reckon if the Fuji could take other lenses, even it's own like the Contax G-system it could've replaced my RD1 then.
 
Why not sell the RD1 then get the X100 and a Hexar RF.
That way you still get to keep and use your M and LTM lenses.
 
Sadly my R-D1 is gone now. But when the timing and money are OK, my guess is I'd sport for an R-D1x. The idea of larger SD cards really is interesting. I think the fuji is a great little camera though, but I really wish it had a rangefinder. It's basically a contax G2 w/ a 35 F2 and digital, and a few, futuristic amenities. My R-D1 may be gone, but I still have a massive load of images still needing to post...
 
I'd say the advantages of the X100 seem to be stronger resolution and a faster 35mm option. The R-D1 is full of character and puts out some really interesting files (to my eye) at 1600.

To me, I wouldn't. I don't think I could live with only a 35/2 lens. I'd say the two cameras compliment each other really well though. Take out both with a 50/1.4 on the R-D1 and you have a 35/77mm combo - both fast and very small.
 
I can see how they compliment each other, but having one Instead of the other - not for me.
(x100 probably goes well with most gear, small, good IQ)
 
Subjectively, I'd keep the R-D1. It's a classic and my summilux 35 and cron 50 like it a lot :)
But if you prefer the excellent X100, then sell the R-D1, you will make a very very happy new R-D1 user somewhere around :)
