Would your camera be better off a bookend?

$50 in materials tops. Chop saw on the angle iron and round stock, a weld, and 2 non-functioning cameras. I wouldn't be spending $50 on a parts camera unless it was something special.

I like to turn the table around:

that store is wonderful to get vintage looking still-life photos :)

meh, so it doesn't match your taste, but don't criticize an artisan for charging the price she/he wants for their work.

yes if you think you can create it yourself for less then go ahead and do it, but the point is some people are doing that as a job and they need to cover MORE than just material expenses to be profitable.

Simply expressing an opinion, my friend.

Everyone has their own sense of value for different articles, that's okay.

I find the thing rather vulgar and pretentious. Much prefer the angle iron bookends WITHOUT the cameras. Or just use the cameras themselves as bookends. Crown Graphics would do nicely - I've done it. No intervention by an "artisan" necessary.

But that's just my taste, which ranges from utilitarian / minimal to pure kistch. These things, I just find them to be phony and tacky. Kitsch = lovely. Tacky = ewwww.

I have a Canon VT which I loved but cannot get anyone to fix the now non-working shutter....book-end? Probably
