Wow, big flickr change...

pretty much indifferent here (after 15 mins 😀 ). its nice to have more than 200 pics now without paying for it 🙂

The layout and design is horrible. I actually find it hard to believe anyone would think it would work.

Photos are not oversharpened anymore, though. And I won't pay for ad free experience when my membership runs out. I doubt a few ads can make the experience any worse 😉

For the price (free), I can't complain! More space than I'll ever need, the ability to store larger image files, some control over who can see and download them, easy to set links to display here in threads. If I wanted to I could set it up to not allow anyone but me to see the images (and block public search), and treat it like cloud storage.

When I download the "original file" it has the full exif data including copyright and IPTC. But if I download a smaller size that seems to be stripped out. I wish they would leave the full exif data in all copies of the image (as our gallery here seems to do).

The worst part of the change is the slideshow. I used to enjoy searching for a keyword, or a lens etc then setting the slideshow to run - just random stuff really. But the zoom and pan look is pretty horrible. I hope they let us turn that off.

Are people seeing adverts? I've never paid for an account, and I don't remember ever seeing an advert.

Hard to complain about all that storage. I make individual flickr accts for clients and have a few times a year gone over the 200 image max for free accts. .
Don't really see what all the winge-ing is about. Logged on and quickly changed coverpage image. Everything else is there even if on a different shelf than where you left it.
For my uses this move is a big value add ++ 😀

it's nice, that the infinite scrolling works better now. also that you see a picture large now, when you click at one.
some other changes may just be a question of readjustment.

but i really don't like that this new picture stream is the only option, as far as i could figure out.
i much more preferred to look at the photographs of others (and also my own ones) with the old layout.
with the old layout, there was more concentration on the picture, like in a gallery.
now its just an endless stream, like a tv spot.

Basically, for me now it's unclear what will happen to:

- The ability to replace a photo
- Post any of your photos or videos in up to 60 group pools
- View count and referrer statistics

Has anyone set up free account to test it?

For me, new look of photostream is like junkfood - it's there, it looks like a food but it's not what I want. There are people who actually love mess - on their dish, in their homes and in their lives - but hey, leave me a choice. Looks like an option of refund is an answer...not that I'm saying I'm better than others but people have preferences. Some will leave but most will stay. Free terabyte isn't a joke, right? As long as it's freebie, people will be happy with everything.

... and the photos in portrait orientation are all half size

That's catering for the 16:9 screens that we all use now ... nothing unusual there.

That nauseating slideshow needs to go ... that pan and zoom effect is a shocker. 😛

... thankfully I got bored long before the slideshow loaded ... we get a compulsory Ken Burns like iPhoto and dopey scrolling like facebook .. the worst os both worlds eh?

I just ignore all that and move forward.

However, on topic, I think the new stuff looks pretty nice, answers some of the things I haven't liked, and gives me some new things not to like. No surprise: they didn't ask me anything before they did it all. Perhaps I'm not the most important person in the world, after all. 🙂

I don't approve of their attitude to force these changes upon everyone without asking. But yes, the single user doesnt count when you have millions of user who do not mind being pushed somewhere yahoo thinks is "forward".

Flickr just charged my card for a subscription renewal a few weeks ago, then they cut all the features that made it worth paying for. I'm really pissed. I will be filing a credit card chargeback if they don't give me an immediate refund.

It is obvious that they have been planning this change to coincide with the tumblr-yahoo deal. The technology has been directly lifted from tumblr.
