Wow, big flickr change...

The work they are doing is apparently on the live site, instead of a stand-alone server for testing first. My Sets and Photostream pages were just white, with black and blue type running down the left side (blue type were links), and all the photos jumbled up at the bottom. Then all of the sudden, the pages went back to their "normal" appearance. And the Edit feature that had not shown up before was finally there, so I replaced their banner photo with one of my own. Only problem is the Save button doesn't work. So it will be a while before they get all the kinks worked out of the system.

I can't say I hate the new look, or even the layout. But it has slowed down my working because you have to wait for 100 sets to load first before doing anything. And the newsfeed style scrolling on the Home Page is rediculous. You can't get to the bottom of the page without loading a couple hundred of your contacts photos. It will be a week or more before this is all settled out.

That's the problem with these type of websites - you can upload your work under one set of terms and conditions that are reasonable. Then the website can change the terms after the fact and expect to apply their new terms to previously uploaded images.

No, thanks...

You mean, just like banks, health funds, insurance companies, and governments? 🙁

I see that I am not the only one here with keen and insightful powers of observation.

To paraphrase Gomer Pyle from the old Andy Griffith show:
["make love"] to me oncet, shame on yew;
["make love"] to me twicet, shame on me.
I think ol' Gomer was onto something. 😉

What happens is they notify you ahead of time you the terms will change. Then you decide if the terms are acceptable or not.

In the case of Yahoo, the current terms clearly state if you delete you account, Yahoo's license to reproduce and display the photos for their intended purpose (make copies for back ups and let others view them) terminates. Should Yahoo change the Terms Of Service in the future, all you have to do is delete your account. The new terms of service would only apply if your photos remained on Flickr after the new TOS went into effect.

After only a brief glance at the site and having read much of this thread I was expecting radical changes to Flickr. Surprising then that after uploading a few new pics, checking out some contacts and groups, reviewing recent activity and adding new icon/header pics that the only substantial change I can find is more photos on a page (which is good for me as I need fewer clicks to get around).

... some people are more easily pleased than I am it seems, all I want is the same View option on my photostream and contacts page that I get in my groups ... I mean, didn't they think some wouldn't like it looking like a phone-app? or is it yet another corporate entity which is happy to update their stakeholder matrix

Stewart: I'm sure they will get around to changing that soon enough so that the views match each other. Of course, they will do so in the opposite way to the one you wish for...

If I ruled Flickr I would include a "Classic" view option for people such as you who wish it not to change. But I do not follow why the change has upset you and others quite so much (apart from the obvious just not looking like it used to) as the functions seem the same to me.

Its upset me because it still isn`t working and when it tries too its like watching paint dry.
Maybe its my old VIO running Vista but I`ve never had any trouble with other site in all the years I`ve had it.

Well ... after uploading more pics I'll be happy if they fix two issues. In the sharing options their method of getting the URL doesn't work for some reason ... I have to go to a chosen image size and right click and copy the location via my browser.

And that slideshow still sucks!

Aside from this it's OK IMO.

"OK - found out how to find the old slideshow format (without the pan and zoom).

Starting from whatever list display you have (your Photostream, or a search result or Group) - click the first photo to bring it up full size. Then click on the little set of three dots at lower right. This brings up a list of options, including "View slideshow". Click on that and it brings up the old slideshow display, without the pan and zoom.

If I'm looking at my own photo, that popup menu includes the option to delete the photo, add tags, add to a group or a set, etc.

I'm starting to feel better about this upgrade, but still wish I could control the basic layout."

I'm gradually finding that all the old stuff is there; it just takes a little finding.

I'd recommend all who have enjoyed using flickr.com and would like to continue using it send them feedback using the contact link on their pages. Here's my contribution:

Hello Godfrey,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Flickr.

Thanks for your feedback about the new page. I'll pass your comments on to the rest of the team.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Flickr.

Regards,

Yahoo! Customer Care

The more customers voice their opinion of the new layout, the better. 🙂

I hate their new format too, but am about 99.9% sure they're not gonna go back to the old format no matter what we say. Either arrogance or $ is gonna make them stay w/ the new "improved" format.

Not to mention the possibility that there are as many users who like it as dislike. You can please some of the people ...

Yesterday a friend mentioned that he walked past two of his staff at lunch time who were both signing up as new users of flickr - they'd heard about the free 1TB storage and weren't too fussed about anything else. I suspect that's been happening right around the world.

And just look at who their users are (type of camera used).

Is there any way to find out the upload numbers for this last month?

Just found this on the Flickr blog.

Has anyone worked out how to apply this layout?

That is what I get Chris.
I must admit though that I have a degree more funtionality today than I did yesterday.

Command icons which were previously obscured are now usable.

Still a dogs dinner of a design though.
