Wow - Keh Discount!

Yes the promotion is intentionally deceiving - they claim "Up to 40% off retail prices everyday" when the discount is much more modest than that.

They had a price matching offer recently too. It was for a comparable quality item from a credible dealer and the item had to be in stock. I was looking for a 50 v2 summicron and found one at Keh but the wanted over $1000 for it which was nuts. I found exactly the same item in Ex+ condition from Stan Tamarkin for just over $800. I'd done a lot of business with KEH so I emailed the info to them. Late in the day the emailed that they would not honour price matching with Tamarkin. I responded that he'd been a major Leica dealer since the 70's and is a Leica specialist. They responded that he wasn't on their list and they would not honour the offer.

If they're going to offer matching and have a list of who the will price match they should publish it. They should say selected dealers only. Very deceiving would you not say.

I went through every page of Leica items this morning in response to this, and, in general, after you took off the 20%, the prices for "Ex" items were still considerably higher than I have been able to get mint items for off of eBay, from reliable sellers. There were a few accessory items which were priced better than that, so I still managed to spend a couple of hundred dollars, but the lenses and bodies were generally no bargains even after the discount.

Interesting comment because I saw a 75mm summicron for 2,550 USD and I was thinking with the 20% off it would be around 2,000 USD. I thought that was a good price but I'm not sure, I have no idea what that lens sells for.

Cheers, michael

That could certainly be the case.
The eBay sales which went, in general, for less, that I was referring to, were not the ones that are there every day, but the outliers that only show up now and then. But, they do show up.

Hi Larry,
Given the recent appallingly bad luck you had, I'm pleased if you managed to save just a few bucks, because I expect you're probably spending money you shouldn't have had to spend in the first place.
Cheers,
Brett

Hi Brett,

Thanks very much for that. Yep, it did include buying a hood for a lens I no longer have as of a month ago. But it was a good deal! Hope springs eternal.

Best wishes,
Larry
