It didn't sell when it was listed at A$15,000, so if I wanted it (which I don't), I'd say around $8-10,000 due to rarity.
I'm no valuation expert though.

Sure the listing states it's in "working condition" but really! might need to spend a bunch of cash on a CLA and that puts it out of my price range.

£70,000 for a camera. I read somewhere that Australia has become so rich supplying China with coal and other raw materials that the blue collar guys operating the machines in the strip mines are pulling in up to £200,000 a year in wages. If that's true what are their bosses making? So it would be really amusing if this guy manages to sell it for £70k.

I spose that rare camera sellers/investors might perk up, but to me it's just a camera. Got a famous name and hey in the right hands(not mine)it probably takes as good a picture as a Canon IIf using the same lens. Those kind of hi-end things just don't hold the same "Wow" factor like they use to. Least-wise not for me.

Everyone's chance has come again.
Same camera, same seller, Summicron 50/2 lens.
Ebay Australia item # 251945979472
A$135,000, but the Aussie $ has gone down against many.
No further comment.

Was relisted at $94,500, now supposedly sold at $54,500 with 1 offer.
Interestingly, it has previously been shown as sold with 1 offer. There is then a spell before it is relisted.
Be interesting to see if, and when, it is relisted.

It keeps being re-advertised.
Looks as though $94,500 is now a constant price.
With previous prices being between $15,000 and $515,000
with it not selling; and the time (more than a year) it's been advertised, I think it's time the seller either gave it a rest, simply held onto it, or put a realistic price on it.
What would other members regard as a realistic price?
(And no, I already have the Leicas I want
. I neither need, nor feel any wish, for this one.)

The problem is that although rare I personally don't think it is particularly desirable and I suppose would only appeal to the wallet of someone who wants everything.
Leitz rarity doesn't always equate to high value (think SL MOT etc)
It looks as if a 'mint' IIIg fetches quite a lot less than £1000 but this is nothing to go on. I'd suggest that if the seller was able to get £2500 he ought to be very happy...but then a) I'm mean and b) I've never really liked the 'g' cameras.
Interested to hear other's opinions.

No, it is not disirable; any repairman can remove the "long times" from a IIIg and so turn it into a IIg, but what would be the advantage of that?
I like the IIIg, but would like it more when it was equipped with an M-mount and was finished in black paint.

Yes, I know that - a few were made in black paint too - but I've never seen a IIIg with an M-mount that was finished in black paint too.

Converting an ltm camera to M mount is not beyond the wit of man so long as one's ambitions are limited to mount only...I've seen one or two amateur attempts for dale, mostly unfinished.
