Wow, this is the only what I can say right now...:D
My so long-awaited M6 arrived finally today - took over a month to get one from US due to Xmas and New Year holidays.....but at last.....
Landed into my hands safely, what en excitement, what a great feeling of the fine craftmanship and simplicity yet robustness...
Looks Mint (just a minor dust and latent fingerprints that I hope to clean up today once getting home)...yet loaded my first roll, but otherwise looks to work just fine (metering, focus, etc...), slapped my recently acquired 50mm/2 summicron (current version) - made an excellent combo, just like they were born to be tied up to each other :).

Feel like a child getting a new spanking toy one was dreaming about...:D

I think I managed to got an excellent deal for M6 getting one under 1k$ on Ebay in so nice condition....

So wish me good luck with my new tool (no a toy, but a serious tool), Alex

Hi Alex,

congrats, the M6 is a great camera.

I seem to remember you wrote you are in Santa Clara ? There are several M users here in the bay area, and occasionally we meet for a beer or so ...

Roland.

Congrats on your new Leica. Is it your first? I'm a fairly new M user also and fully remember the first moment when I pulled the camera out of the box and was blown away by the quality I was holding in my hand. My first roll of film confirmed i had made the right choice.

Congrats,
John

Thanks guys for your kind "welcome" into Leica world (may certain grow up into addiction...)
Roland: no, I'm in Israel though have visited Bay area, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale several time in some past for work. Had the chance to spend a half day in SF as can be spotted from my galleries (on my site). The camera (as teh majority of my other photo gear) came through our corporate HQ which is in Sunnyvale.

John: yes, thsi is my first RF and Leica in particular, I used to be SLR a long-term shooter up until recently, now Leica and LF will only be my photo passions...:)

Do you have GAS yet?

Do you have GAS yet?

Alex,
Welcome to the rangefinder world and the Leica world in particular. I remember the first time I held a M3 I had gotten off eBay as a lark. I was speechelss. Could hardly put it down. I now own more Leica cameras than I can remember, and that after just 6 months. You are in trouble, bud! :D

Regards,
Ira

When I got my M2 I thought the shutter wasnt working- it was so smooth and quiet.Congratulations on the M6 have fun with it!

regards
Steve

Xmm, Dave, I feel quite similar to you - can hardly force myself to put the camera off my hands. In fact I feel kinda fetishist garsping it in my hands....LOL

BTW, Steve, I was reading thoughout teh net about quiteness of the M shutter (and M6 in particular), however, honestly, puuting teh camera in my fact (shooting position) the shutter sounds probably somewhat louder then my expectations were developed for due to all that inet trembling.
No doubt, much more queter then my former EOS-3 which was kind of cannon (perhaps the reason for Canon wording...:) ), in fact can't be compared to one, but still noticeably louder then completely silent feelign I was prepared for LOL :)

Try the M5 shutter if you want completely silent. Sometimes even I am not sure it fired.

/Ira
P.S. More GAS for you!

Congradulations on getting an M6, you should have no regreats.

I also just received my M6TTL today. Its a black beauty with not a single mark on it. I have a freind that will let me try his 35 lens out. I will have to decide which to get soon, I wont be able to just let this sit without using it for too long.

Congratulations to both: Alex & Bob. As someone mentioned above, you are on a slippery slope! :D

Slippery slope indeed.

The wow factor is common I think. Mine was followed by a big why. Why do they build a camera this well? Followed quickly by a desire not to answer that question and just smile.

Old time craftsmanship carried forward to modern times.

Yeah, can't say better..:)
Just checked the meter against my Pentax Digital Spotmeter (Zone modified) - there appearsto be some disperancy fluctuating within 1/3 to 2/3 stops which is actually excellent since the pentax isn't incident meter requires my judgement to be involved...
Overall I'm hooked...

@ alexz:

Congratulations first. When I first heard the shutter sound I was also kind of disappointed. But you propably have tried it indoor in a very quiet room.
So just go outside and you will hear almost nothing.

Have fun

Yes, that's right, played with it yesterday in quiete office environment and of course, camera clsoe to my face in shooting position....

So you're the one who outbid me!!! Congrats!! I just recently won one too. Still waiting for it.

I just won an M6 on ebay an hour ago. Never had one before and am so excited reading all these posts of the quality.

Can't wait for it to turn up and for me to get a roll run through it!!

Wow, Leica Geek, was that you ? There were 20 bids prior to me, I was 21 - on last few seconds....
Nothing personal, you know....:D
People were not really confident in his auction due to absense of images of the camera, I took the risk...;). That costed to teh seller probably another 300-400$ he would earn more would be present a few detailed images of the camera, couse it is indeed Mint..
