Anyone interested in selling a 40/2 summicron? Probably not a good time since the VC 40/1.4 goes for only 349 but if you have one sitting around????
I would like to try one on my M3, I just bought a 35/3.5 summaron with goggles that works great but I'm not sure I like the goggle thing, if that makes since :confused:.
I would also be interested in trading (equal values of course) if anyone would like!

Dunno Todd, some users report the 'FSU grease issue :)' on their 40 Noktons, there's even a thread on PN showing how to relube the lens helix...

Also seen some photo examples that were not completely of my taste, even though that's of course subjective.

Just talked to Gene yesterday to adopt his 40 Summi for my (his) CL, if I could use that lens on my Canons then it would be full happiness, but I suspect all is part of Brian's master plan, the man who said that there will be a Leica M3 at each RFF member's home :D
 
I would just like to add that the 40mm F2 Summicron works quite well with the M3, especially on the Ex-JD that was modified to focus to 0.7m. The 40mm Summi has a higher-pitch cam to it. Some stories circulated that this would be an issue for "regular" M cameras. Nonsense!

It is a very sharp lens. I need to do some more scanning.
 
If time and skills permit and it's possible I'd like to turn my Canon 7 to M mount. It's a pity we can't build adapters with negative thickness :D

OTH, it's the perfect excuse to get a beater M2 or M3 in the LONG future, 'cos I don't need more cameras :bang:

Yes, and I'd guess that difference in flange-to-film distance will make that conversion impossible... unless the Canon's thread mount projects forward from the body by a mm or two. Otherwise, how would one make the Canon body thinner to allow infinity focus with M lenses? Interesting idea, but I bet you'll get an M3 instead! :rolleyes:
 
Hehe, nice suggestion about that M3 ;)

BUT indeed the lens mount on the 7 projects forward a bit, as it has the 3 tabs for the bayonet mount. A precision work anyway, but hey, one has to have some dream :)
 
The Canon 7 mount has a metal shim under it, but it will not go the full mm. Maybe 1/2mm and then you could calibrate the RF for the difference. If the M-Mount is a little thinner than the 7 mount, it will get you close.

Todd.. I picked up one of Ray's 40mm 'crons a few months back and it gets used very regularly on my M3.. definitely a keeper.. here's a sample (slightly underexposed as I had forgotten a meter and it wasn't a textbook sunny-16 day)

Beautiful photo, Brett. I agree, that lens IS a keeper. Only reason I sold it was that I got another as part of a package.
