I have grown very attached to shooting street at waist level with the Nex 7 flip screen, but I definitely prefer the BW output of my X-Pro. Now I'm wondering if the X-M1 would give me the benefits of both.

The bodies are so cheap and the size is very nice. Is AF speed any better with the XF35? Any other thoughts on this approach? Thanks.

Couple of days ago I just played with it, with zoom lens attached.
AF is little bit slow for my taste. I wasn't tracking BIF with it, just pointing at some static objects on different distances.
It has relatively large sensor, would some wide, manual focus lenses works on it?
For me nothing beats zone focusing speed for street photography.

Thanks. I use my GR for wide and am very pleased with that. But I also like 40-50mm and, as I said, really enjoy shooting with a flip screen.

Waist-level capability and Fuji BW rendering are my motivations.

I can't see why it wouldn't be right up your alley then... other than AF speed vs. the Ricoh.

@Ko.Fe. can you do the AF-L button while setting the lens to manual focus? The other day i was playing with it and could not make it work with the kit zoom. If it does support it, then this would be another way to use it with the 35mm.

Any further comments. Especially with use of this body (or comparing others) and the 27mm "pancake".
I'm looking for a 40mm equiv FOV answer to the Ricoh GR.

I have the 27 pancake almost permanently attached to my xe1. It is optically not as good as the 35 but I like it.. I tend to prefer it to having the 35 on the xe1. I just like the 40ish perspective much better. The diff in height between a xm1 and xe1 is not that great. I guess the issue is if u intend to carry it in your pants pocket, both are going to bulky.

It was not until the xe2 and the xt1, that people mentioned faster af performance. The xa1, xm1, xe1 and xp1 af speed is all about the same since their CPU and digital paths were all the same. The xe2 was the first to receive a better CPU and improved digital circuits.

I finally found a like-new X-M1 at a good price. Adorama had a kit from which they took the lens. It's amazing you can get X-Trans performance in a well-built little package like this, and for such low cost.

Anyway, it's great to have a flip screen again. I enjoy shooting street that way. I tried the 35 but didn't like the ergonomics much, so I got a 27 and am pretty pleased. A few first shots below.
