I got the xpro1 in 2012. I still have the camera, and I will keep it for a few more years. I'm doing mainly landscapes, still life and portraits, AF is not a problem for me. I would not do sports and I was sometimes frustrated when trying to photograph my young daughters. Otherwise, image quality is great.
I almost only use fuji lenses, along with an old canon FD 50mm. Manual focusing with the legacy lens is somewhat tricky, but I got used to it and almost never misfocus now.
Fuji glass is superb. And solid. So is the camera. Mine suffered a 6 feet fall on my (wooden) veranda and it did not even dent.
You should find someone who has one and try it.

I just pulled the trigger today on one at B&H. I was thinking about waiting a bit to see if they come down just a bit more, but I'm starting to see them as out of stock at a number of places near Toronto. What can you buy for $499 USD - that also includes a memory card and a nice little case that I can give away to some budding teenage photographer?
I would describe myself as a fairly serious amateur, pushing retirement, with some travel time on my hands. It was the travel that made me move from D2S to an OMD - smaller, lighter - but the JPEGs have never been exceptional, and I like working in a shallower depth of field. I tried to love MFT, but it's just not working. Post processing RAW is great, but I'm a bit too lazy to do that with anything other than those special pics.
Size is right, images appear exceptional, the glass (which is really what attracted me) is stellar - bought the 23mm to start, the camera's quirkiness is compelling to me (I can relate) - I'm not in a hurry and I miss the film days of being so involved in the process.
And so I bought it. It will be my new travel camera. I didn't pay much more for it than I did my little Sony WX350 (which delivers below standard pics imho, but I'll keep it because it's an easy in pocket camera when travelling).
For that price, I buy an exciting new platform to build a few very impressive lenses around. I'm just struggling very hard to see the downside.

I have just indulged in a new £158 X-Pro1 body to use with a 35 f2.5 Color Scopar borrowed from the M8 , maybe a 50mm Zuiko , 50 f1.4 / 35 f2.8 Rokkors ... 50 f2 Nikon ... even more useful - 135 f3.5 Rokkor at infinity for airshows - no focus worries !!
All this info is priceless , but has not put me off - thank you .

The Fuji X-Pro1 a terrible camera, I tell you. I don't know how I've managed to put up with such inferior technology for the past four years.
Hit or miss metering:

Poor manual focus with Fuji's fly-by-wire focussing, especially in dimly lit conditions:

Poor performance in low-light -- impossible to focus:

Mediocre performance with non-legacy lenses:

Poor reproduction of foliage, particularly in the greens:

In conclusion:
The X-Pro 1 is rubbish. RUBBISH I scream! Yet I am stranded ... destined to wander the photographic wastelands until I am one day rescued with the delivery of the perfect image-making machine. Until then ...

Of course, but that doesn't mean that we all photograph the same things the same way and that its deficiencies aren't real for some users. Why get offended?
I wasn't offended. Maybe re-read what I wrote.

Just have to sell a 1933 black Leica II body and buy the cheapest lens - 27mm f2.8 would suit , with nom 40mm at APSC !! It's just so compact .[ is this lens OK on IQ ? ]

The 28/2.8 is a great reportage lens. It's only weakness is the extreme corners aren't as good as other Fujinin XF lenses.
I used this lens a lot on my X-Pro 1. I really liked it. There isn't much glass to move, so AF quicker than some of the larger Fujunon's. This is helpful for the X-Pro 1's slower CPU. Its compact size makes the X-Pro 1 a more practical daily carry.
