X Pro 2 to have APSC? And much more!

I am reading on Fuji Rumors and Photo Rumors that the X Pro 2 will indeed be APS -C. I will not be surprised if this is so. Their new lens lineup is very impressive as well as all the X bugs being ironed out with the new X-T1. So if the X Pro 2 is to be APS-C what will the camera be bringing to us that is new for the X system? Here is my prediction: The form factor (size and layout) will be almost exactly the same as the X Pro 1. The new X Pro 2 will have a MUCH larger hybrid optical and EVF hybrid viewfinder. This may cause some design change, maybe an enlarged top plate just above the new viewfinder to accommodate the lager EVF. There will be no X Trans sensor. There will be something totally new, with resolution that will be as good as the Sony A7 and A7r! The screen in the back might be larger, or may tilt, but will have higher resolution. Battery life will be better, and we will see a dedicated battery grip similar to the X -T1.
 
I vote aps-c line and a digital GF medium format line. Glad they are staying aps-c with the future x cameras - it's a good compromise.
 
Now that Fujifilm has its own line of lenses, it's safe to assume that we won't see improved OVF support for legacy lenses. I would love to see a dedicated RAF to DNG converter designed inhouse by Fujifilm XTrans experts either built in or available as a download as part of the xpro 2 roll out.
The rest of the camera I think just needs processor performance upgrades and state of the art Evf and LCD specs.
 
I'm perfectly OK with it being APS - I only wanted FF for selfish reasons (to use my M lenses as intended.)

If the gf670 digital body becomes a reality, I just wonder if they will produce a csc version just as they did the x100 first to test the water before the xp1 was released. If they did do a csc version.. I am hoping the flange to sensor distance will allow a m lens to be mounted :). A 50 may not be a 50 though more like a wide angle though :p

Can't say I'm fussed. I doubt any change or "improvement" over my recently-acquired XPro-1 would make the slightest difference to my photos, so I'll save my money and see if I can afford either the 56mm or 10-24mm lenses later this year. I suspect they'll have a greater beneficial effect on my photos than a new body.....

But if it's APS-C, won't it have to be bigger than the X-Pro 1? I'm not sure about the wisdom of taking something that was good because it was small, and trying to make it better by making it bigger. Think of the evolution of 35mm: You could slip a Leica II with collapsible Elmar into your pocket and take it hiking. So they said, "This is such a nice camera, let's make it bigger and better," and they made the M3, which wouldn't fit it your pocket anymore. You could carry it and an extra lens in a small shoulder bag, though. :)

Then 35mm grew and grew, until it became a Nikon F-5. If you want to take that hiking, you needed a backpack! And if you wanted to take along extra lenses, bodies, filters, and stuff, then you needed a llama! :rolleyes:

One day, the designers said, "Oh, these things have gotten so big, let's make smaller ones." So they made a Leica D-Lux, and a Fuji X-10, and an X-Pro 1. And then they said, "Oh, these little cameras are so nice, let's make them bigger . . . " :bang:
 
The longer I have been waiting for the XPII, while passing on the XT1, I have become more smitten with B&W on the M6/M5-35 & 50 Summicron and less usage of my X100 (which I do enjoy when I do use it, usually for color work)- the announcement would have to be as substantially compelling to me to change up my present kit. Ill remain optimistically open minded…..

Admittedly I don't know the internal schematics of the X-Pro 1 but I'm not sure an APSC X-Pro 2 has to be any bigger. This link has the Sony NEX 7 (APSC) and X-Pro 1 side by side:

Obviously the OVF adds more bulk than the EVF of the NEX but the APSC is only about 5mm bigger than the M43 sensor in the horizontal and less than 2mm in the vertical.

Oh well... New sensor is not going to be organic according to this rumor. But the new cameras are going to have a new xtran sensor. I guess more mp.. Or better phase detect cells usage? Both xp2 and x200 is kind of interesting.

The x30 will be announced before.

The X30 with 1" will be great if they can keep that fast lens and lens barrel ring zoom.
I tried the X20 for a bit. Nice Camera but the smallish sensor lacked the detail I had become accustomed to seeing in my images.... I deferred to the x100 and sold the X20.
I loved the form factor and ergo of the little 2 digits X models. Seeing a bigger sensor coming will be awesome!

We don't actually know how much better an organic sensor would be. The Sony sensors already being used by Fuji have >65% quantum efficiency in the green channel and superb read noise characteristics. There is not a vast amount of room left for improvement, unless they go backside-illuminated and use more/smaller pixels. Even then we're talking about incremental, not revolutionary improvements.

At this point the biggest improvements in IQ are coming from the computational part of the imaging pipeline, not changes in sensor design. That's true for all manufacturers, not just Fujifilm… but it's especially true for the XTRANS sensor since deconvolution of the sensor data is more computationally intensive than for a Beyer array.

There marketing propaganda during the announcement about it.. Was way better dynamic range and higher clean iso. I don't need the higher iso, but would love the dynamic range.

I do tend to agree w/ u that we will c better incremental improvement from all the vendors in terms of the rest of the digital pipeline though.
