I shoot a lot of underground parties in LA. I have always used a 5Dii or D3 so this is the first time I left the heavy gear at home in favor of the Xpro with the x20 flash. I mostly used the 18mm and brought the 35mm but only used it for a few shots. It worked out pretty well. I am still figuring out the settings I prefer, and doing so while a bit under the influence & dancing is a bit of a challege . I found the I liked the slow syncro flash setting the best, which I did not like on the canikons. Lots of dragging the shutter, perhaps a bit too much. I shot raw and edited in lightroom 4.4.

I was actually planing of using the Xpro in conjunction with the D3. At the last moment, the D3 was locked in my office and I nervously relied solely on the fuji. I was mainly worried about the lack or IR focusing with this system, which I have relied heavily in the past especially in such dark environments. While slightly more annoying, the fuji's LED AF assist is very quick to focus.

Thanks, thats my girlfriend. I shot most of them at 5000 iso. I wanted to keep the flash output very low, since I was shooting a lot and I read in the manual "TURN OFF FLASH FOR 10 MINUTES TO COOL DOWN AFTER SHOOTING 15 CONTINUOUS FRAMES" which I definitely did not do!!

Awesome pics. Makes me lean more and more towards getting an X-Pro1..

Did you have any troubles with the AF focusing in the low light?

I had no trouble with the run-n-gun style I was shooting. I used the OVF to frame and also the LED af light to focus. Since the last xpro update, the system works well with the "one click" shutter press. Instead of the usual half press to focus, and then full press. This is more see what to want, aim and fire. The AF light fires is almost instantly before the flash so there isn't much lag there.

Good work. Appreciate me some party shots, though I don't mess w/flash myself unless absolutely necessary.

Done my share of shows & parties w/the X-Pro1, e.g., this series: http://brightestyoungthings.com/articles/photos-art-basel-day-6.htm

I think I recognize the guy in the 13th photo, or it looks like a dude from DC.
