Hi all

Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times. I am going to Sweden on bussiness tomorrow morning i was wondering if Ilford HP5 400 is affected by the airport X-ray machines? I hope to only carry hand luggage.

Thanks

Stu.

It should not be affected. I have passed hundreds of rolls through carry on X-ray machines (multiple times), mostly 100 and 400 films without any ill effects as far as I could see.

I used to feel uneasy about these machines, but now I have stopped worrying.

Have you ever seen any people complaining about ruined film through carry on X-ray machines? I have not.

If you feel worried, take the films out of the canisters and put them in a transparent plastic bag and ask for hand inspection. Sometimes they will do that, sometimes they will say it is no problem and it will be OK through the machine. Do not fight them, the idea is to reduce the number of times they go through the machines.

In any case, if you worry a bit, at least put them in a separate plastic bag and let that go through the machine separately from your other luggage. I have encountered a couple times in Sweden that they rescanned my backpack.
