I am curious what any long-term users of the Fuji X System (X Pro and XE-1 specifically) think about their durability and how they hold up to a lot use. My biggest gripes with the camera are physical/design rather than firmware/software.
The ON/OFF switch feels finnicky and cheap to me. I'm always worried it's going to come off at any flick.
The battery door "lock" also feels cheap. Both of these parts of the camera feel like after thoughts. Do any of you long time users have any feedback as to how the camera has held up in these areas?
Also, what is Fuji's repair service like, if anyone has encountered or used it recently?
Thanks! Just curious to find out anyone's take on these questions.

I've owned 3 fuji x cameras and none have had any issues.

My cameras have held up well in both of these areas. The battery door does not fell as robust as others. The most common battery compartment problem I'v read about is the orange plastic locking tab for the battery breaks off due to user error. But it seems this does not cause problems.
Fuji's service is regional and satisfaction could very. Most reports I've read are positive and of course there are reports of disappointing interactions with all the service centers

I have dropped my x-pro1 from waist height onto solid concrete to no effect, I have also used it in the rain. I consider the camera to be about the same in durability and build quality as a 5d mkII and have no hesitation using it in all situations. Don't let the light weight fool you, it is very well built.
I had my x100 serviced for the sticky aperture blade thing, and it came back a week later, and they also cleaned the viewfinder. Very happy with their service.

Also as far as I am aware the x-pro1 is mainly aluminum whereas the xe-1 is mainly plastic.

Xe-1 is half plastic. Only the back.

Had my xp1 since the first month it was available in California, never had any of the problems u are concerned with.
Here is a post from a blog I found a while ago about someone who dropped their camera down a hill, lens was totaled, but camera body still work.

A more of a btw in terms of when to buy a Fuji... And really only based on the rumor sites.
The xe1 replacement is rumored to be known as the xe1s and has a possibility of being available by end of this year. The xp1 replacement is rumored to be more like next year.
The reason I bring this up, is that as these dates get closer, if stores have too much old inventory, u should c some pretty good sales going on to clear inventory before the new cameras are announced.

I"ve used them in some pretty brutal conditions and they have performed well- no service issues.

Derek, I wouldn't worry about it, I know you're not abusive with your gear, and remember when I told you about the day I got my 18mm and sure enough I dropped it right onto the cement (man I felt stupid). Aside from a couple knicks, literally nothing happened to the camera.
Fuji's cameras are built really well despite they're light weight. I never had trouble with my X100 in the past, or even my GW670III which was impossibly light for how enormous it was, no problems at all, and I was rough with that camera (you'd never know it appearances-wise).
Don't fret my friend, and go shoot!

I got one of the first X-Pros released (I live in Japan), and managed to drop it on the the concrete before I even got home with it. I have had no issues whatsoever with the camera or lenses.

This must be a problem or something. Why are so many of us dropping these wonderful cameras onto concrete?
