Had a pleasing cal from my dealer today letting me know my preordered X-T1 had arrived. First impression is the size, smaller than I imagined. The EVF is every bit as impressive as the reviews say, it is frankly awesome!!!

Battery is now on charge, hopefully give it a blast tomorrow. Very impressed so far.
 
Yes try predictive af.

Birds in flight are one of the hardest even for a dslr. Fast action sports are another.

Have fun.. Most web sites were showing the 24th availability.

Ok, will give that a proper try out tomorrow with the predictive AF. I only have my hands on an 18-55mm right now, as I'd sold off all my other Fuji lenses before going back to Fuji X, but will see what I can determine with that lens alone. The 55-200mm would probably be the best bet for sports/wildlife I'm sure.

This is the camera body I've been hoping Fuji made for a while now, hopefully it will be up to taking the place of a DSLR pretty much. I just also hope Fuji could release a 2x Teleconverter in the future as well, that would really extend the focal reach. I know they are planning to release some longer length telephoto lenses in time but a quality 2x teleconverter really would be a great benefit for their lens range I feel.

Just been testing the AF in a fairly dark room with the 18-55mm and must say I'm very impressed when compared to my X100s, locks focus very quickly with no hunting at all. Makes my old X-Pro1 seem like a dinosaur in that particular area, I loved the X-Pro1 but my very early findings are that the X-T1 really is a new breed.
 
Mine got shipped today... so that mean sometime next week for me. I'll have to live vicariously through you guys until then!
 
Will the larger viewfinder be a help for those of us with aging peepers?

(Peepers means eyes for all you young'uns.)

@Mr_Toad: EVF and focusing/ageing eyes.

Yes, it will help a LOT. Firstly the dioptre is excellent and secondly the focus assist button & various options available with that are a great help too. Manual focus can be described in one word, EASY.

My eyes are getting worse & worse with age but with that super large VF and the focus assist I have no problem whatsoever in getting quick, accurate focus. All my (limited) testing has been done indoors at night in very poor light which makes it even more impressive.

@GaryLH: Sorry about the inflicted GAS Gary, only speaking as I find. :D

This might be of BIG interest to those with an X-T1 on pre-order - In the UK Fuji are offering a £250.00 discount to X-T1 buyers off the "To Be Launched" weather sealed 18-135mm lens once it is released so long as you register your camera with Fuji.

No idea what the discount will be for US buyers or anywhere else come to that but bound to be comparative I should imagine. Pretty good deal if you are interested in that lens. ;)

You know, that X-T1 does looks awesome, and it has spurred all kinds of thoughts of potential gear combinations in my mind, which became a little confusing and made me think about the basics and what I really wanted from a camera system, and Fuji. It all became a bit philosophical in the end :rolleyes:

What I found is that the main reason I got in the system and I'm still in it, is still none other than the xpro. The dinosaur. I mean the X-T1 is fantastic, but if this was all what I wanted I would've probably jumped to the Oly Em1 or A7 or a small Pentax a while ago. Others too make that kind of camera. Fact is though, nobody else makes a digital reincarnation of the Contax G, a camera system with a windowfinder and AF. This combo puts me in a fast and fluid picture taking mode without the interference of a digital evf, and I know the end result is a certain kind of photo that I dont get otherwise. Getting an X-T1 and keeping my xe2 seems like an overlapping of shooting styles, but keeping my xpro instead doesnt. Sort of like having a digital Contax G and Contax RTS, and sharing the same lenses... how good is that? And you know what else, maybe the xpro is 3 generations behind now, but at the end of the day the photo coming out of it is pretty much the same quality as the XT1. Same sensor- same lens, only the subject viewing and focusing changes.

It sort of starts to form in my mind like this: Xpro1 for wides, rarely AF but mostly zone focusing (my 14 and 23 with their beautiful MF rings and distance scales scream to be zone focused), street photography, landscapes. In fewer words, typical RF subject matter. X-T1 for when I need fps, fast AF, longer & heavier lenses: my 55-200 really needs to sit in the middle of my face rather than trying to balance it with my left hand to the right of my face... big zoom lenses need SLR-type designs. Even the little 18-55 looks more in place with the X-T1, and it's such a high quality lens for what it is. And lastly, if the split screen works as well as they say, maybe a speed booster and a couple of OM or Contax/Yashica primes (there's an EF->X speedbooster now by Kipon, and you can easily adapt both OM and CY to EF)

Still wrapping my head around it, we'll see... Anyway I'm not ordering this camera blind, I need to have a look in person first, so there's still some time to think until it hits the shelves.
 
on a sunny day, please check the evf's dynamic range! the guys at the camera store say it handles highlights well, but they forgot to mention the shadows.

The X-Pro1 is in no way a dinosaur, I was only using that term to compare the AF between the 2 cameras. It is still a fantastic & unique camera IMHO.
 
Had mine since let week in US, AF is OK, but definitely the feel is closer to XPro1 than my DSLR. IQ is very nice and this will be a good camera for relatively still photos, but for action of any sort, I will stick with a DSLR. EVF is nice, only limitation is black out after shots. Cont AF is useless again, once you start shooting, EVF is frozen, so really only one shot is possible in cont AF. HTH

By frozen do u mean the evf is not keeping up w/ the frames per second or is it frozen in the sense of preview mode active and hung? W/ the increased refresh rate, I expected jerky but not frozen when shooting at max frames per second.

I don't own a dslr w/ really fast frames per second, but I would expect that the mirror would have to stay up when shooting at max burst.

The EVF does not keep up in any reasonable way. Any modern DSLR (I use D7000, D600) is better in cont AF. That said, the camera has many uses, just has a different "POU."

Frozen?

Hey by any chance did you download a card and then not re-format upon returning to camera?
It may sound strange but, I know with my xpro1 and x100 if I don't re-format each time I return a card into the camera it slows everything terribly.

Just saying ... :)

My cards could be slow, it possible, not sure. Definitely try before you buy if cont AF is of interest to you in this camera.

That was my experience as well - however I followed the subject and fired off about 3-5 shots - I don't recall any of the shots having the subject in focus.

I really want others to try this out and see - under similar conditions, indoors, good light - not "outdoors bright light" - and I have admitted that there is always a possibility that I didn't have everything "set up" just right on the camera (i.e. predictive focus etc.)
