x100 accident

Hi,

i would like to ask you about my accident with x100. I was trekking, when a heavy storm caught me. My camera was in a case and in my backpack, but nevertheless, probably because of high humidity, it got completely wet.

When I got home and checked the camera, the viewfinder was foggy and also buttons didn't work correctly. I've left it to dry and after few days except for few spots on the rear display, the camera seems to work fine.

My question is if I should send the camera to a service for a check-up or just continue using it and do not worry about it.

It still has time on the warranty. Personally, I would shoot some non-critical pictures with it for a few days. If it works after that, I would not send it in.

You could use one of those little silica packs as a desiccant to soak up the residual moisture. I've heard that rice can do the same.

Unfortunately water damage won't be covered under warranty, however if it appears to be working now, I wouldn't worry about sending it in for a check-up.

I would get it serviced. My M8 got wet, was carefully dried out and worked fine for a day or two then failed completely. Solms deemed it unrepairable. I was very lucky that under my home insurance I was covered and they replaced it with.....an M9! I believe the problem is corrosion developing in the electronics even after drying out so would be very cautious.

Get it serviced.
1. Long ago I bought an Olympus XA2 because it fitted my ski jacket rather better than the Russian rangefinder I normally used. First tumble and it fell out of my pocket, stopped working. I dried it out and it was ok for a while but then the shutter started to fail.
2. My EOS 620 worked happily for nearly twenty years until a wet weekend in Wales. Within a few weeks the shutter had become unreliable.

I was covered and they replaced it with.....an M9!
