Very impressive!
I've been jonesin for this camera ever since it was announced and these high ISO shots are really killing me! argh...
Jeez, if this is truly usable through 12,800... and the AF is very fast, this may become my favorite camera.

everyone keeps testing IQ at high ISO.. does it even mention AF performance at low light?
WHat good is 12800 ISO if the camera can't focus in those scenarios?

Also, at about ISO 5000, it looks like by G10 shots.
That's the real difference, for people saying it's just another compact.

Looks solid. A great step in the right direction.

Well, it'll focus... but the key is how fast... sufficient or ridiculous.

How do you know it will auto focus?

Do you really think they would put out a camera that is unable to auto focus in dark situations at this price point? All of the APS-C compacts and micro 4/3 compacts I've used can.

Ok so you dont' know.
Once again, they all can AF properly in extremely dark situations where 12800 is warranted?
I only go up to ISO2000 on my GF1.. 12800 is VERY dark.

Iso 12800 is not that dark. I shoot my 1DMkIV at 12,800 frequently on high school football fields during night games. The Canon has no problem at all keeping players in focus at 10 frames per second in servo AF mode. Piece of cake.

1st - we're talking about the AF of the X100, not the 1d4
2nd - Obviously one can shoot 12800 under any lighting situation as needed, to achieve high shutter speed for example in your case.
The context of what I'm talking about is barely hand-holdable shutter speeds at wide open aperture @ 12800 ISO. That is dark.
EDIT: Does the X100 provide any artificial contrast boosting in the LCD when low EV levels are detected? At what level of darkness will it no longer able to AF without AF assist lamp? I assume the inability to AF also means the camera can't perform focus confirmation in MF mode?

New linky post of controlled shots of the Fuji X100 vs the Leica X1 at matched f stops. These are jpgs, BTW.

Not to pick nits, but those first few of the flowers are pretty pointless - the X1 has massive lens flare wiping out the exposure, from the looks of it.
Otherwise, completely different colour rendering from the two cameras - looks to me like the X100 settings are much more consumer-based / punchy at default settings, but I expect a lot of that can be corrected either in camera or at the RAW conversion stage...
So, nothing terribly conclusive there as far as I'm concerned. Others may feel completely differently - but I would still pick the X100 over the X1 for myself, primarily for the OVF / EVF system but also for the high ISO quality from what I've seen. That's just me, though!
