So I'm pretty sure these demonstrate precisely nothing about the potential of the X100, or indeed of what I may or may not eventually be able to achieve with the camera.
What they do show though is that the quality of the images it produces is "good enough" for my purposes. If I can't figure out how to make some decent images with this camera it's not going to be Fuji's fault.
There is little to be gained from posting full rez images I think.
My overall first impression is that this is a curious hybrid, very high tech despite its analogue outward appearance. It's going to take some time to get used to it. I am finding it harder to adapt to than any of my Canon DSLRs, coming from film and subsequent upgrades, and also harder than my Zeiss Ikon - which was very easy to understand and get used to. This camera is altogether a different proposition.
Over time I expect I will develop a simplified set of rules and settings which will allow me to set things up so that I can just get on with taking pictures, but I'm not there yet. Hopefully by the end of summer I'll have it cracked, and be able to get some good pictures along the way.
I'm not at all sorry that I got it though. It's just the right size, and can stay in my bag without taking up much room or adding appreciably to the weight. That is what I really wanted! It's also stunningly good looking and loads of people in the West End on Saturday knew either what it was or thought it was a really cool old camera. No one ever wants to chat about a DSLR.

I too will need some time getting used to it. Especially I have some issues with the focus system. But I will use the frase "je ne regrette rien " instead of "I'm not at all sorry that I got it though" >S< Its truly a wonderfull little camera, for its purpose. Think dim railroad stations with lots of fast moving people.
Its late and Im all battered- come weekend Ill be back and enjoy your pics >S<
PS: tip of the day. Get one extra spare battery than you thought prudent. That on/off button is tricky...

Looks like a pretty good start. The B&W conversions look very nice. I think this camera will have good uses that will allow people to get pictures that would have been more tough to get with a film RF or a DSLR. It is quiet, small, and ISO and color flexible. And cheaper than an M9 or M8.
You will find its perfect use as time goes on. I would not use it for everything though, if good results are expected...
