X100 Kit, $1,299.00 USD

I've handled an M9, and own an M8. So when I buy an M9 I know what I will be getting.

The X100- until it is released, no one knows what they are getting. Let's hope it is as good as it looks.

Hmmm, so a rangefinder is the only thing that makes a camera not a P&S?
No- where did I say that?
:confused::confused:

out of context comes to mind, as I was replying to:

I really do not care about the rangefinder camera I am using, whether it is an M or in the future, made by someone else,[.........]so anytime a company gives us something we can use at a very reasonable price, I get very excited.

"Electronic Gimmickry". All Digital Cameras are electronic Gimmickry. All cameras with Light Meters are electronic Gimmickry. All Rangefinder cameras are mechanical Gimmickry.

If the Gimmickry does something useful, like provide information used for the intended purpose of the instrument, and the instrument itself provides some useful function, is it still a Gimmick?

You must be jokeing.

You must be jokeing.

lets see,

For $1,299 you get the X100, a camera case, an 8GB memory card, a card reader, and a spare NP-95 lithium Ion Battery.

What did I get with my M8 when I bought it new?

What are others getting with their X1?

What are others getting with their M9?

I know Leica does what it does, but they should be ashamed!

By the way, If I had a choice, I would buy the X100 over the X1! Especially for the price!!

When we see an interchangable lens version of this full frame, I will be very excited!!!

This was so predictable, Leica bashers take every opportunity possible to show their jealous ignorance.
I can understand comparing Leica to Canon or Nikon
but Fuji, this is pathetic.

To be honest I do wish they would come out with a cheaper digital alternative to a Leica M8/9. I know the RD1 exists, but it would be amazing to have a digital RF around the price point of the Fuji X100 (Digital Bessa or Zeiss Ikon would be awesome). This has been talked about at length but I agree that I don't need to buy Leica for Leica but I bought it because it was really the only game in town.

This.

If there was another interchangeable lens, rangefinder-esqu, dslr sized sensor system available for 2k instead of 6k, i'd jump ship in a heartbeat. As much as I'd like to get caught up in the romanticism, I see no practical advantage in DIGITAL leica equipment when compared to the IQ from my nikons.

Yes, but so was that part about Fuji. I like this forum, but people here are way too gear related. A camera is a camera, and every single one is just as incapable as any other one in the hands of people who discuss instead of do.

I really think this forum needs to move towards the doing aspect, rather than the discussion aspect.

Isn't discussion what a forum does?

OK, I should have said not used the word discussion, instead I should have used the word whine, moan, b1tch or any other of those types of words.

Of course, the other way to look at it is how much does a 24mm f2 lens cost?

Just had a thought - Fuji Zoom Date F2.8 (aka Silvi) has 2.8/24mm lens (well, varifocal extending to 5.6/50). When new, that camera did cost...about $300? I realize X100's lens is stop faster and could be better optically....just to my unscientifical eye it's not too far, number-wise. I also realize body, imaging chip, electronics, software, R&D - everything costs money. And then Fuji, dealers and shops have some margins because they also have expenses and just need some bread on table.
