The xe2 and x100s according to one blogger has a marginally better digital output compared to the xe1 or xp1.. He felt that if u were upgrading because of that it is not worth it. Update for the other things like faster af or split image.
The sensor is basically the same, but he believes that Fuji improved the other parts of the digital data path.
I can't remember where I read this now.

From the images thread ... I was pretty convinced I could live without the X-100 by purchasing the 23 for my X-Pro1. The article seemed to confirm this -until I got to the last two paragraphs!
I could give up a stop or two, perhaps the sharpness wide open, but I think I would miss the close focus, ND, leaf, and general overall package that makes the 100 so special. I suppose I was wrong, even more so when I consider the costs for that extra speed and perceived sharpness. As of now, the 100 will remain in the fold.

i toyed with the idea of selling the x100 but it really fills a different need/want than the 23 on another fuji body.
the x100 is just so easy to grab on the way out or for a quick dog walk…it feels more casual.

Different cameras. Something interesting I noticed is the 23 f1.4 has less apparent depth of field than the 23mm f2 on the x100. Both at f2, the 1.4 throws the background more out of focus. Something to do with controlled aberrations.

fuji used to make a p&s, the natura, with a 24mm f1.9 lens. That lens had a massive rear element, about the size of the whole frame, that went so far back into the camera that was actually touching the film. You can see it in this video at about 1:50

I *suspect* that the x100 lens is modelled after this as it shares many specifications and design: about half the lens is inside the camera and it has a massive rear element (about the same size as the sensor) that must be extremely close to the sensor

Not only that, but at regular distances (at least a few meters) it is sharp all over the frame even wide open and has minimal vignetting too. At a certain distance I think sharpness across the frame is better with the x100 lens than the f1.4 - not that I care :angel:
When you think about it, with optical engineering like that, an optical viewfinder with LED frame lines, and an aps-c sensor the x100 is basically an absolute bargain.

The 1.4 looks really fantastic but I have to say I'd much, much rather get either an x100s for only $100 more or a second hand x100 for $400 less.
